Got a chance to work on it again today. Just installed the new regulator and a new alternator. Started right up, but volt meter only shows between 12 and 13 volts, and alternator light stays on. Seems like it still is not charging. Checking alternator output stud shows the same 12 to 13 volts to ground. Not sure what to do next. Going to work on the parking brake for now.

Also trying to get the transmission parking brake working. Is there a trick to getting the large nut holding the drum on to break loose?

Picked up an inexpensive 1/2" impact wrench on the way home, and it took the nut right off. Thanks for the tip. Now I have to figure out how to get the drum off. I thought I had a puller that would work, but when I got it how and tried to attach it, I don't think it will work.

Got the drum off, cleaned, painted and ready to assemble, but now it appears the seal is cracked and needs replaced. What is the best way to get that seal out without having to drop the transfer case?

Got the parking brake put back together and working now. While working on the parking brake I noticed the return spring connected to the clutch fork. One end of the spring is correctly connected to a hole on the clutch fork. The other is connected to a wire wrapped around the brake line splitter (see photo). I am guessing this is not the original spring connection point. Looking around the area I could not find any obvious spots to connect that end of the spring. Could anyone post a photo of how the spring is supposed to connect?

If your are asking where does the return spring for the parking brake lever attach, then here is a link to a picture:

It attaches to a hole in the rear frame support via a metal rod

Not the parking brake spring, the spring that holds the clutch fork forward. After looking at more photos, I think the problem may be the spring that is there is too long. There is a hole in the bell housing that would hold a shorter spring, so maybe that is what I need.

There is a steel bracket bolted on using a bell-housing bolt in line with the clutch arm. The spring is mounted through a small hole drilled into this bracket.

Got the parking brake put back together, new turn signal switch installed on new steering column, and ran a wire from the alternator ground to the negative battery terminal. I took it for a test drive for what may be the last warm day of the year. Although the alternator warning light stays lit, the voltmeter is now reading between 15 and 16 volts going down the road, so I would think the alternator is actually charging the battery now. The temperature gauge does not work, so I guess I will order a new temperature sending unit.

Another thing I have run into - the passenger seat did not have a place for the seat to lock down to, although there is a spring loaded catch on the bottom of the seat. In the box of parts that came with the Jeep, there was a plate that looks like it would do the job, and the hole pattern lines up with the holes already in the floor. However, it I line the plate up with the holes in the floor, the hook misses it, coming down about 1 inch in front of the loop in the plate. The seats appear to be bolted into the original position, so I am confused why the hook would not line up. Were there different plates used for different model years? 20181028_121552.jpg 20181028_121532.jpg

Looks exactly like what I have, only the hook and latch are 1" apart. Weird.
