CJ5 driveshaft u-joints fit CJ2A front driveshaft?

Hi Folks,

Does anyone know if the u-joints from an early CJ5 front driveshaft will fit a 47 CJ2A front driveshaft? Reason I ask is that I have a CJ5 front driveshaft complete with u-joints and a CJ2A front driveshaft with no u-joints. Rather than go out and buy new u-joints, I'd like to use the ones from the CJ5 driveshaft if they'll fit.

FWIW, the CJ5 front driveshaft is markedly longer and thicker than the CJ2A front driveshaft, but it bolts right up to the CJ2A if lifted several inches. I've already lowered my CJ2A back down to its stock height and want to install the stock CJ2A front driveshaft.

The U-joints should be the same size.

 

Thanks for the replies, fellas. Interesting that the diesel's driveshaft was smaller than the other's.

Anyway, I tried to cross-reference part no's on d/shaft u-joints for CJ2A's and CJ5's on Autozone's and Napa's website, but neither had any reference for the CJ2A. I did find, however, the same "item no." for these u-joints for the CJ2A, CJ3A, CJ3B and CJ5 at JC Whitney's website (they were $14.99 each, by the way). So my guess is that they should fit. I'm hoping I'll have the time tonight to remove the CJ5 front driveshaft so I can measure the yokes on both. I guess if they measure the same, they should fit. I'll post on here when I get a chance for the benefit of anyone else with a similar issue.

Looking at Walck's part numbers, the 25, 27 & 30 take the same U-joint. So 1945 to 94 use the same (95 different(?)). I know my 48 2A uses the same joint as my 93 YJ. I would still measure tho.

 

V6's 5's used the smaller driveshaft yolks also i think.

 

Thanks for all the replies, fellas. Well, I was mistaken about one thing. The longer, thicker CJ5 driveshaft is actually a rear driveshaft. The one that's on the front is the same exact length and diameter as the supposed original front driveshaft. So either the previous owner was mistaken in telling me it had CJ5 driveshafts, or he meant that only the rear was a CJ5, or the CJ5 and CJ2A share the same front driveshafts.
