What exactly is "this"? It looks great, and I've been wondering how I'm going to do the same on mine. I think mine is getting an Isuzu Rodeo column.

Every time I read your posts, I hear AC/DC playing in the background for some reason. :rockn:

Really, cold water to set the paint off hard??
I would have thought warmth would be the better option.
    Who knew?

Don't mind some acca dacca or men at work.
Lots of aussie bands that you blokes might like.

Hunters and collectors is my favourite. (y)

    How bout some hoodoo gurus.

So much good music we had.

"This" is a steel cover to hide the alloy clamp and the blinker mechanism that held the ignition and the mount that the blinker setup mounts to.

Formed up a pair of half cylinders around a pipe and tacked that to the bracket that supported the old plastic cover, then formed a cone to attach to the cylinder.

I will take extra detail photos if you are after some inspiration.

You gave me what I needed. It was done so well, I couldn't tell if it was something you custom made or made work from something else. (y)

Some more details if it helps.

Bottom section attaches to the fixed top half via a pair of screws either side, that is the recess you should be able to see in the pic.

I also added another screw bracket to the under side of the column to take some wiggle out of it as well.

A small cut out in the bottom of the cone allows the wiring to run down the column.

    Hey there ozzyGeoff.

I sure hope to have it on the road by then.
The weather last year was crappy so I only went down for a look on the Sunday morning.

Will be nice to test this old girl out up in the Watagans.

The beastie is going back together way faster than it did the first time.

    Just a few hours effort today and did this;
Bolted new rubbers in to join the body to the chassis for the final time.
Reattached the throttle and clutch cables to the pedals
    Side handles attached.
Under seat fuel tank installed with the valves rebolted and both tanks filling points attached.
Steering column and shaft to the steering box reassembled.
Seat cross bar and seats put in.
    Kicker panel bolted in place.

Plus I went out twice today, to pick up bolts and go shopping for the sound system and a UHF radio.

Lots easier when you have everything ready to go and the right bolts on hand.

    Something for the trend setters.

A way to install LED style indicator lights from recent model jeeps to the real jeeps.

These came from ebay for 20 bucks.
I don't think they are genuine.
About the only thing I do like about modern vehicles is the LED lights.

Not having the correct plug available to incorporate into the future wiring harness, I just soldered some wires to the appropriate terminal in the female plug so I can fit my own plug and filled the original plug opening with silicon to seal it.

The other thing us real jeeps don't have is the method to retain these LED do dads in the grille.
The little clips at the rear can stay or be cut off if preferred, but I did remove the 3 locating fins that are at the front of the unit so it is a plain hole in the grille.

Taking inspiration from the method that a lot of instrument gauges use to mount I made a pair of U brackets simply bent from 1/8" thick x about 3/4" wide flat bar.
Aluminium in this case, but steel would also work fine.

58mm high legs and 85mm across, that's inside dimensions.
A pair of holes around 3/8" in from each leg.

Then drill a pair of holes in the plastic back of each blinker. Again these are to suit the bracket holes and are around 5/16 inch in from the edge of the corner.
There are existing holes in the rear faces that could be used if you wanted, but i feel it is better to put the holes where I have them in the pic at the 3 and 9 oclock positions in this case.
Trying to use the existing hole would mean the opposite hole is crammed beside the bayonet socket where the wires enter the main body.

The screws that go in the plastic rear reseal so it should still be weather proof.

    The next bit is obvious.

I used screws with a coarse thread which I think will be better in the plastic.
Don't over tighten it. It might crack something.
It retains the unit in the grille even better than I thought it would.
No way you could rotate it by hand unless you break something.

Then from the front we get a nice neat set of LED blinkers.:bananatool:

    A bromance.

Didn't achieve much today, spent most of it on other work.

But did get the handbrake lever painted and a walnut grip made to make it look spiffy.
    The released position.

    The engaged position
    [IMG]

Plan is to make up some shrouds for the gear levers and the handbrake.
Leather ones would be nice but not very practical in an open vehicle.

Might make up some out of vynil first and see how they look.
