I am finishing my 2.5 year build on a CJ2A. (It is the one in the signature) It is not all stock but very nice. I need a good answer or retrofit to my front marker/turn signals. I have the small holes in the grille from the original markers and really dont want to cut it as it is already painted. But the old ones were shot and they broke just removing them. I also now have a 12 volt system. Any ideas on retrofitting something or a place to get reproduction ones that will accept 12 volts???

Also on another note I need a goood place to find a reproduction dash light?? Put a 12 volt bulb in my and still wont work.

    Thanks,

    Bryan

I used turn signals from a later Willys wagon in my '2a, and used an electrician's chassis punch set to open up the holes for the larger lamp assembly. Looks almost period-correct and they work just fine with 2-element sockets from my FLAPS inserted from behind. ;)

I can not find it right now but I remember at some point seeing a great tech writeup on how to modify your 6v front marker lights to accept 12v bulbs. This meant you didn't need to cut into the grill.

The process involved getting a new 12v socket base and attaching it farther back from the light fixture so the marker light assy would protrude farther back behind the grill but look the same from the front.

If anyone knows where this write up lives point the way.

I bought mine at the local harley shop. they are almost exact copies of the original lights except for the lenses which are amber and cone shaped instead of flat. they sit back in the grille and line up just right. also they are double filament so they can be used as park lights and signals.

How much where they? I looked for something like that on several biker places, but couldn't find anything. I ended up getting something else that will only work as turn signals and not parking lights.

I used trucker LED's, I have them wired with a few diodes and resistors so they can be used as park/turn signals as well. I just have to get the right electronic flasher unit. One day I might do something else, but it is nice to not worry about bulbs burning out on a rig that isn't used much.

Not sure of the cost, it's been a few years, but if it was much over about 30 bucks I probably would have figured out a way to retrofit my original lights with double filament sockets. For some reason I think I remember them referring to them as "bullet lights"

In a pinch, not recomending for orionality. Flush mount backup lights. Work great and provide a good deal of light if you are just running your park lights at dusk or low light conditons.

That seems like a clever solution since backup's aren't bright at all. Anyway, is there a way to see a bigger picture to see what they're like? I'm interested...

if your grille is set-up for the bullet lamps, as mentioned above the motorcylce units work good. I bought mine thru JCW motorcycle catalog, 12 volt, dual filament, amber lens.
which style are you looking for, flat or bullet ?

Might want to check the laws in your areas. In some states marker lights on the front must be amber, not clear. Nickmil

You should be able to get the bulb in amber - just append an "A" to the ID number, like 1157A.

Yup, that's what I use in mine. Just mentioning it in case someone was thinking of using lights without replaceable bulbs.

    Jim,

I have the flat style grille with the small hole. The CJ3A info gave me a good idea, but I will also need the new covers bulbs and everything but not quite sure where to find them. I have about 3 parts jeeps but none of them have what I need. They were so old and stuck in there when I dissembled, they just snapped coming off. Dont really want to drill the holes out if I dont have to so the info from 3A page could work and maybe the only solution?????

Vernco.com has a write-up on using relays to trick a single filament bulb into dual useage. I used Karls idea and flush mounted amber LEDs which look like earlier post.
