So before anyone says "use the search, knucklehead." I swear I did, I finally got the Jeep home and I'm a little overwhelmed. I spent all weekend digging through the search and found out about the snorkel plate in the hood and the little indention on the other side. What I can't figure out is what this is. Or why it's there. It's just a random round indention in the body.

Also where can I find the plate that covers the master cylinder in the floor board?

The indention is for a receptacle for intervehicular electrical connection. (jumping) There is a receptacle that goes there for cables to plug into, (positive and negative) for supplying power to or getting power from.

The later M38A1s just had a plate covering the holes located within that indent. From the looks of your fender, you have a later year A1.

M38- from 50-52; the last of the flat fender military jeeps
M38A1- from 52 to 196x; the first of the round fender jeeps

My M38A1-C has the plate, no receptacle, and it is a 1952. (On the other hand, it did have a 106mm anti-tank weapon.:sneak:)

BTW - your headline refers to M38, but that is a different animal (=flatfender). You show an M38A1 in the picture.

Sorry my laziness is infamous in These parts. Those two extra characters would have exhausted me.
