    ok bruiser my 66cj5 is almost done .why bruiser because its black and blue .would like to know if you had a choice between cj3b or cj2a which would you restore and which would be easier to find parts for always wanted a flat finder and paint it od green

    Every part is available for both of them. If you are going to paint it OD green you should go with an M-38 which actually was a military Jeep. To most "Jeep people" painting a civilian CJ Jeep od green is just bad form.

    the m38 was built in 50 and 51 seams like it would be hard to find parts as it was only built for two years. thanks for the heads up on od on civilian jeeps did not know that

    90% of the parts on a m38 are the same as a civilian jeep of that period, the only real differences were a few body parts and the waterproof 24 volt electrical system. There's still lots of them around and everything, in at least some level of quality, is available.

    thanks how can you tell the difference what is the tell tell sign it's a m38 besides 24 volt system

    Passenger side tub has tool indents, large filler neck, larger driveshafts and D44 on the later ones IIRC, battery box in the cowl, tailgate doesn't fold down and has supports, the dash where the gauges go unbolts, the frame has additional supports and lifting points, fording kit consists of a cable? to pressurize the drivetrain for going under X amount of water. There's probably more but I forget.

    Most important to be is the fact that its the only flat fender that has a large floorplate that unbolts.

    Cj2a has always been my favorite. Plenty of aftermarket and salvage support. And they have that cool factor. Only drawback to it is engine. Lhead is ok, but it cannot take a lot of goosing, or overrevving.
