Yeah, its really easy. Just find a windshield from a 75 and swap it over :). You get elec. bottom wipers and taller glass, win-win.

Not sure but, you may be able to trim the steel top to fit the shape of the taller windshield. The windshield frame itself would be the same. Or, there MAY be a year that had both the short glass and bottom wipers. Like, maybe '68 or '69. Someone else will have to verify this though. Maybe try a search on windshield frames.

My question is why? I used a postal jeep wiper set up and flipped it over, and mounted them on top. I had to change the mounting holes a little. and make a mount for the motor, they work great.

Why? Taller glass. Makes forward visibility *way* better, especially if you are > 6' tall. Later wiper motor is way more reliable, and overall install is clean / OE looking. Really easy mod with great benefits all around.

Yeah, being able to see the traffic lights with out setting your chin on the steering wheel is a plus even for those of us in the vertically challenged set!

Here's the answer to which windshield fits:

    Quote from reference page:
There are four styles of early CJ-5 windshield, these are illustrated below with explanations of each.

    1955-mid(?)1968 Top Mount Wiper
The most common early CJ-5 and CJ-6 Windshield is the top mount wipers.

    Top Mount Wiper, Split Windshield
Also offered, less common though is the ventilating split windshield. These were offered on CJ-5s from the factory domestically but mainly it was an export item. M38A1 windshields also interchange with CJ-5 and CJ-6 windshields.

    1968-mid(?) 1969
The ’68 or early bottom mount style has shorter glass, in fact it measures out the same size as the top mount wiper style, sits lower, just like the top mount style, and is flat on top:

    Late(?) 1969-1975
’69-75 style with the bottom mount wipers, taller glass, and the glass is curved at the top:

They are all interchangeable with regards to soft top and hard tops as the overall outside dimensions are the same and the height, and angle are the same.
    Quote

I've used the 69-75 windshield many times on both the M38A1 and the early CJ5. The visibilty change is fantastic and you can't beat the wiper setup. A much better choice than jury rigging a set of wirpers to the bottom of your frame. It will take an hour to install and keep your stock windshield for the future buyer that wants it original.

Yes but the advantages of swapping far outweigh the negatives. Availability and cost of wiper linkage/pivots/motor. Fab work involved, higher glass all outweigh putting all that in an early frame. Unless he has all the parts needed.
It can be done but typically cheaper and much easier to swap the whole windshield.

Submariner, if you can make your location known, there is likely a board member somewhere in your area who can help or may even have a windshield frame available.

Can anyone tell me what the going price for a complete windshield and frame is. Just saw one for 200 seemed steep.

In my area a rust free windshield with wiper motor, cover, linkage, glass, etc. with bottom mount wipers in good shape is well worth $225-$375. Price out replacement costs for the parts real quick $200 is a good deal. That can vary quite a bit depending on location though

If I get my son to help me lift the one from 1960 off and the one from 1970+ on the total time would be about 10 minutes, including wiring. I already have aftermarket electric wipers on there.

Looking at the frame in my '60, there isn't even room at the bottom of the frame for mounting the wiper motors.

    Wes,

I have a 69/75 windshield, will I have to change the hinges to use it on my 53 M38A1?

    Thanks,

    g
