Hey guys! My parents just let me know that they are getting me a radiator for my jeep project for my birthday.

I'm trying to figure out whether the champion CC7071 is the best option for my dauntless. The grill will be from a '57, so I'm assuming I'm going to have to do some bracket adapting to mount the radiator to the grill.

This is the one I'm looking at; is there a better option? CC7071

    Thanks for the help!

That's the same one I used on my 1970. It has the V-6 grill and bolted right in with no modifications. You will probably need to adapt it to a 4 cylinder grill.

As far as quality, I installed one in a 1990 Bronco about a year ago and so far, no problems. The welds are very nice and it beat the other options of plastic epoxy/aluminum. They shipped it asap back then. Good luck.

Steve is running this radiator. We adapted his factory shroud to it. Jeep never breaks 200 on a 100 degree day. There’s pics in the Picked up a 71 for a buddy of mine thread.

This is great news, thanks for the information. It sounds like this model is backordered but they're going to call back when it's back in stock. I'm guessing it won't be that difficult to adapt the mounts from the 4 cyl grill to the 6.

I seem to have missed the 4cyl grill part. The later radiator is wider I believe.

I would think that a couple of brackets would be pretty easy to fabricate. Worst case scenario I can source a newer grill. My biggest worry was whether the CC7071 is the best choice for a retrofit application, or if there's a better radiator.

I would focus more on the fan and shroud...
    Radiator is a fine option

I used that radiator in my 69 V6. It's almost a bolt in when you have the proper grill, but still needed a little fiddling. See the post here: What Did You Do To Your Jeep Today?

Note, the later grills have a much wider duct to mount the radiator to. It's more than just brackets. If you don't get a later grill or fabricate a wider duct for yours, you'll be blocking a decent chunk of cooling area. It's an 18" wide opening vs a 22" wide opening.

Here's the narrow radiator grill setup:

And here's the wider setup on my 69:

All that said, the radiator/shroud I installedproved themselves well in the Colorado mountains last week. No issues overheating on long 1st gear low range climbs.

Hey, Givemethewillys, you might have seen my IG posts? I JUST installed a Champion Radiator over the weekend. Took me a leisurely 2-3 hours to complete, with lots of stops and starts doing other chores/tasks, a full coolant flush, and a run to the parts store for coolant, overflow tubing and hose clamps. Actual install was about 30-45 mins.

I have a 198 v6 that is very similar to a 225, but with the early, narrow grill.

the CC6571 part number fit my 1963 like a glove.

17” (19” with brackets) 22ish” tall. Inlet/outlet are 1.5” i think with center top and passenger-side angled bottom.

I don't know if I saw your thread (was it the one about the cross-flow radiator?) but this is really good information. I'm curious how the smaller radiator would affect cooling ability of the 225? This might be a cleaner install than the CC7071. Thanks for the heads up, I'll definitely think on it.

Oh ok, no worries, thought I recognized your screen-name. :)

As for cooling ability, all reports are that it handles the 198/225/231 family of engines just fine. This part number is specifically made for a V6’s hose size and positions.
