    Hay all,
Been gone for some time ,but I'm working on my 42 MB again and could use some advise. Having carb issues 1) should I rebuild the carter WO or go with a solex? 2) this jeep spends it's time in eastern oregon at 4000 + elevation. Runs good here at portland but not at 4000 ft no power, seems to want to "load up" running to rich I would guess. any suggestions. I have a line on a new solex from a guy, does the solex work better at higher elavations? Also thoughts on changing to a dual chamber mastercylinder does it bolt in or require some fab work? what year and type of rig mastercylinder works best?

    thanks

Just my opinion, but if the MB is reasonably stock, I think I'd want to keep the original carb if at all possible. Those things were made to go anywhere, ya know.

You can likely get a good kit for it from The Carburetor Shop, and good advice on G503.com. Don't know anything about the Solexes, but I do know there's different models for the L-heads vs. the F-heads. I personally would be wary of a used one unless you really know the guy and it's history, and you're sure it's the right one.

As far as the master cylinder, call Herm The Overdrive Guy. I bought one of his kits for my '56 CJ5, he probably has a kit for your MB too, or at least some good advice. I had to remove a couple of rivits to install the bracket and replace them with bolts, but otherwise it's pretty straight forward. You'll have to re-do your brake lines too, since you'll be connecting them into two ports now instead of one. Probably run into clearance issues between the fittings and the bellhousing, and have to use some 90 degree banjo fittings.
