The motor mount on my 198 :v6: went totally kablewie  . And, of course, I am having a very hard time finding a replacement for it.

It was a cob job from the begining.. a 198 V6, Oldsmobile stamp on the motor mount and the frame of the jeep was modified to accept that motor mount.

It was almost impossible to find the motor mount, but I think that I found one in a "Anchor" paper cataloge. BUT, of course, those mounts are discontinued  . The item # is 2218. I am only going by a picture in the cataloge so I really don't know.

Has anyone ran into this before??? I really don't want to cut my existing motor support brackets on my frame in order to accept a new type of motor mount.

I was kinda thinking about using something like hockey pucks between the 2 steel halfs and bolt it together.... but it sounds like a bad idea that would possibly kill someone every time I think about it.

Would that be the same motor mount as a 225? Hopefully Brian (termin8ed) will chime in with some wisdom--I think he has a 198 sitting in his garage (or behind it :D ).

Brian should have a box started of 225 motor mounts by now. I know he has the wrecked frame in his private collection so, he may be able to cut the mounts off that frame and sell the pieces. I'm sure he will chime in soon .

Can you put a bolt through it? It'll vibrate a little more, but will be ok.

The 198 motor mount stuff I have looks like it is the same as the 225 motor mount options (have 2 different types).

Let me know what you find out as I might be able to help you on it (getting rid of the 198's and going all 225).

I have one complete engine (condition unknown as it is at the in-laws) and the 198 block with 225 heads on it that runs (have heard it when I bought the whole jeep).

Hijacking the thread here, but I was under the impression that the 198's were different beasts all together and that nothing but externals like water pumps, motor mounts and starters, whatnot exchanged?

I know the bellhousings were different, but no idea about the motor mounts.

yea, there aren't many of the 198's around, and they were an early swap. I also found out that the valve covers are the same as the 225ci v6. I was under the impression that no parts interchanged so just wanted to let anyone that was interested know about it. Dauntless parts are a little easier to find(225v6) If anyone needs a part for the 198, I have a disassembled engine I'm more than willing to sell parts off from it. Can't garentee how good some of them are, but if you need something let me know. My email would probably be best for that.

I didn't mate the 225 heads on the 198 and am not sure I trust it without a more experienced engine guy looking at it. My plan was to pull it apart late summer - early fall and see how it works together.

I had the same impression that the parts were not interchageable - I have since run across a couple old timers that said with little to no (depending) mods you could put the 225 heads on the 198.

When I get it ripped apart I will post pics as to how it was hooked up.

Last night I solved my motor mount issue.... I welded it up  .

Basically, I managed to put all the rubber pieces together and welded some 1/4" stock around it (strapping). I installed it late last night and started it up real quick. Of course, I can notice the engine vibration now  . Better than nothing!!!

I am going to wait until I pull the engine again over the winter to cut the existing cob job of motor brackets and adapt some type of motor mounts that are readily available.

As far as the 198-225 parts interchangeability (man that's a long word), the 198 has the following differences (only what I came across doing my engine rebuild:

    Different:
Crank (mains / bearing) are different
Pistons / rings are 1/8" smaller in diameter
Water pump is different... (can use a 231 water pump)
Oil pan and lower end of block is different
Bellhousing bolt pattern on block is different
    Rocker arm assembly
And, of course, Engine Mounts  ;)

    Same:
    Exhaust Manifolds
    Carb
    Cam
Lifters and valves and valve covers

This is all that I can come up with for right now.

If it moves to much under load do what the old Chryslers had from the factory, chain it to the frame to keep from ripping the motor mount apart, attach a chain to the cylinder head and hook it to the frame, a huge chunk of Chryslers from the 50's-60's had a chain on the drivers side head to keep the motor from pulling to hard on the motor mount and pulling the sandwich apart.
