Can you help me figure out how much lift I have and what shocks to run?

I am trying to figure out much lift I have. Can someone with a 1967 or so CJ5 get a measurement for me?
My front shocks are 20" center eye to center eye at ride height. If I could get a measurement from a stock CJ then compare the two and that is my lift.
This should be accurate because the front shocks are straight up and down or close enough.
Also what shock do you all suggest? How about mounting them, body up or body down? My Jeep is used for street and light trails.

    Thanks in advance.

Looking at your avatar I'd guess no more than 2.5", but we need more info....what tire size and brand are you running. Need a couple of pictures including a straight on side shot, maybe with a measurement at the front to the top of the frame. How many leafs in the springs front and rear? Where exactly in Ca. are you? Might be a member close by that could help figure it out.

To find the shocks you need, measure the distance between the pins and the amount of travel the axle has before it hits hard on the stop. Pick a shock absorber that won't bottom out at full compression, but gives you the maximum travel. You'll probably have to move your axle stops down with spacers to keep the shocks from bottoming out. You want the axle stop to stop axle travel in compression rather than the shock. Likely the shock will top out to limit downward axle travel, but that's ok.

Typically you don't get a lot of axle travel with the factory shock mounts. The factory shocks are rather short. If you want more travel, you can extend the mounts above the frame and then use a longer shock absorber.
