I am doing a disc brake swap from an 83 CJ7 to my 72. I am swapping everything from the knuckles out and I was planning on new ball joints but the ones in the 83 seem to be in good shape and are the greasable type. Can I re-use them or should I play it safe and replace them?

They can be re-used if in good shape and if you set the preload properly. However, you're there now and were planning on changing them anyway so I'd change them out. Can't put a price on peace of mind and better than having to tear it down 6 months from now because they didn't get changed. jmho.

Thanks Nick. That's kind of what I was thinking but I guess my fathers thriftiness is still in the blood. (My Dad won a trip to Reno with $500 spending money and came home with the money.)

Heh, heh, I hear ya. I'm cheap, I admit it. However I don't like doing the job twice which usually costs more money in the long run. Goes back to being cheapR)

Sure you can. I used my old ones to hold open the pages of the Factory Manual as I swapped in the new ones.:D

Seriously though...it should legitimately fall under the "while I'm there" category for buying new. Good luck!
