I talked to McGruff today an the stocck 225 pressure palte is longer at the fingers by 1/8 of an inch. Can i bend my fingers on the pressure plate up 1/8 or will this really be bad on the spring steel the pressure plate fingers are made out of??

Assuming you're saying to get more movement, i.e. releasing action, my question would be could you bend them all perfectly equal? I'd say you'd have a tough time doing it successfully and without weakening the steel as you mentioned. Then there's the question of how long would that fix last. 1/8" isn't very much, personally I think you'd end up with a temporary fix that would fail at the worst time. :(

Yeah i was wondering that, i really do not want to mess it up. And i do nto want to have to buy the "KIT" for the 225, because i will only need the pressure plate. :( Really bothers me that i can only buy the kit and not individual parts of it. I have to try one more thing and pu the centerforce pressure plate back on and then adjust the sleave cylinder so that it is keeping the throwout bearing just before the pressure palte. i didnt adjust the slave before as much i have a good spring on the fork and only tightened th eslave enoguh so that it will not wiggle freely, but i am guessing i have about 1/4 before the throwout bearing even touches the pressure plate.

It does suck that you have to buy the whole kit. Good luck, hope you get it going. :)

Dan, my best guess is that the TO bearing wasnt seated on the fork correctly. It can go on several different ways. Check the FSM. That spring retainer has to all, fit into the groove.
Also, did you use cut off bolts (studs) in the back end, to keep the weight off the disc while you stabbed the tranny and bellhousing?
I know you have done alot of work on your Jeep, and it gets frustrating when the plans dont work.
One of my old jeep buddies painted the phrase " oh sh**) on the underside of his hood in bold letters, just to keep himself receptive.
He also keeps the long axle stapped up to the grille supports above the carb. He told me he can change a twisted axle faster than most people nowadays, can change a flat tire. Winch the jeep up to keep grease in the unbroken end and pop it off and switch it. Bearings already seated on the replacement long axle.
There is a simple solution if you stand back and look at it. Maybe Lynne will chime in.

Why don't you just get a TO bearing that is 1/8" longer. They are available in lots of different lengths.

Not a chance. Don't even try. Here is a thought you have not considered. Change out the pivot bolt. Get one a smidge longer. Can't find one? Make one. I did for a commando. Use the appropriate bolt, and grind the head until it neatly fits the clutch fork. Put a nut and lock washer on it, install it. Makes things line up SO much better when the fork is parallel with the bearing!

I unfortuatnely did all the little tricks. I got the GM longer pivot stud, and got the longer GM throwoutbearing. :( I will check the picture of the fork on th ebearing, i believe i had it on correctly.

Why not just buy the pressure plate? They sell them at Advance Auto Parts, Checker Auto Parts, Schuck's Auto Supply and Kragen Auto Parts.

Look up the parts you need on www.partsamerica.com

They list 2 different pressure plates starting at $50
