    Hi all, great site

I have a 67 Kaiser Jeepster Commando, I was wondering if anyone knew where, i could find the windshield frame to body gasket for one of these.

I would also like to find out about a new windshield, I would imagine I could have a custom one cut? but since I 've never had a custom windshield made? is this something a run of the mill auto glass place can do?

I am also in need of a high beam switch and a turn signal switch - are these the same as used in 5's and 6's?

    thanks all, Jeff

    jeff,
the gasket for the winshield frame is hard to find. they do have them time to time on ebay but they go pretty pricy. you could find a used one, i also think they may reproduce them.

you may be able to find them here
    http://www.off-road.com/jeepster/clubads.htm

As for the glass any auto glass shop should be able to make one for you. it is a flat piece of glass thankgoodness so any shop should be able to hook you up. And the glass gasket will probably be also hard to find, but the glass shaop could probably use an aftermarket universal gasket for the glass

The high beam switch is the same as the CJ, and the turn signal switch can also be found on the jeepster classifieds, they are not easy to find either. Enjoy th e jeepster they are fun.

    thanks for the reply

I found the correct high beam switch AC Delco part number - D808
and also Brake light pressure switch - AC Delco part number - U855

thanks very much for the link, it will be most helpful indeed

I was looking for the base gasket so that I could take the whole deal down to windshield shop so that they can do what they do, plus its pretty rotted, I'll probably end up making some kind of universal gasket fit as high dollar is out of the question for me

does anyone know if the turn signal switch is the same as CJ's? as I've found a listing for a CJ turn signal

Unfortunately i think the turn signal switch is only made for the commando. kind of a PIA to get parts for when busted. there seem to be a few at times for sale on the ebay, but you can probably find a used one.

What's wrong with your turn signal switch? Doesn't cancel?

Also, you may be able to look around and find a complete windshield for your Jeepster Commando cheaper than you can replace the glass and the seal. I recall that Scotty's in Fontana CA had a nice C101 last time I was there.

The switchs I've seen are plastic rings that go around the column. They have bumps or latches cast in so that the rotating wheel will hit them and cancel. The electrical part is wires riveted to phosphor bronze contacts that make/break when the stalk is moved.

You may be able to fix it if you remove it (at least part way) from the column. If the contacts are bent or dirty, clean and adjust and put it back together. If the contacts are broken, you may be able to fab a new contact, or scrounge a similar part and replace the wires. Considering Jeep's liberal use of other car maker's parts, it's likely that the switch is GM with Jeep's wiring code and connectors attached, or something like that. Look at the switch, then look for something similar from the same era at the pick-your-part. If you know someone that works in a big parts store, these switches used to be available in Standard Ignition, for example. You could open a few boxes and look for something similar.
