Not much progress today, waiting on the new spring plate to resolve the issue I was having with the shock. Messed around with the old master cylinder, I have been nervous about getting the old push rod out.. Surprisingly it took a whole 1 minute. [IMG]

Took a wire brush to it
    [IMG]

    New master cylinder on[IMG]

I don't have a vice so I had to "bench bleed" the thing in the bracket. Also nothing came with the master cylinder to bleed it so I had to get creative...

Wandered my FLAPS and found some short sections of flexible fuel hose. Then I used the plugs/dust covers that were on the threads to hold the line after drilling a hole in them... Like this[IMG]
    [IMG][IMG]

The plans tomorrow involve running some brake lines and trying to get the transmission off the engine so I can take it to get looked at.

Transmission and transfer case off and dropped at a local jeep shop to be serviced/inspected. Fingers crossed no problems as the other T14 we have is not any good.

What a pain to get it on the truck by myself... Had to use a strap around my shoulders to move it.

Brake lines started.. No pictures of them going on yet, not too much progress though.

Careful moving that trans, they're a bit heavy as you discovered. Good luck with the other T14.

if you seperate the trans an transfer case be very careful!!!!! you want to take the shifter off and install the front two bolts halfway in their holes and use some wire to tie up and hold the gears in the tranny to those bolts so you don't drop all your needle bearings in the tranny when you split the two apart. i found out the hard way!

Brake lines done! Not my best work, but I am happy with them. After making several trips back to the parts store to get more brake line, I learned.. The rear axle line on the drivers side was a little long, no sections the perfect length available. Might fix it in the future but it's alright for now I reckon. It will probably bug me for eternity though. Only thing left are the small brake S lines onto the front brakes, I am missing my clips that lock the brake hoses into brackets though so I'm gonna wait to put the S lines on... Will have to get new clips or improvise something most likely.. Fingers crossed the lines clear everything around the master cylinder.. The 1/4 lines made the tight turns very difficult. Well the last couple days have been interesting, just buttoning up a few more things.

I got the new spring plate installed, it didn't help too much and thanks to OMIX-ADA, the holes didnt line up. It did allow for the shock to be mounted where it couldn't before but it still touches the steer stop. [IMG]

It's now ready to haul back to the family farm on Saturday, still have some things to do on it in the future like the brakes and steering, possibly the kingpin bearings, but I am trying to spread the cost out, those things can be done once the body and frame are back together so I would rather put those funds towards the body/engine/transmission right now. [IMG]

Over Christmas at the farm I will hopefully get new floors in the body, and the bumpers mounted on the frame with the help of my father and brothers. Maybe some engine work if we are feeling up to it.

Got some info on the transfer case, some seals being replaced and some shaft or gear was missing 3 teeth, those parts are on order, no info on the transmission yet.

Well, no more updates until next week most likely. I managed to load up the trailer by myself, it was very interesting.. Also cleaned the garage up today and degreased/pressure washed the floor. It's ready to haul up north though! [IMG]

Feels good to have it back on the trailer!

Over Christmas we made some progress. I am back in orlando now with only a hood, fenders, and a radiator left in my garage at the moment. Gonna take some getting used to. My father and I started some welding on the body early on in the trip home, but a friend who is a much better welder offered to help out. So rather than bring it back it is staying in AL until the welding is done, which should only take a few more days. Then I will find a place there to get it soda blasted or something similar. Anyways, enough with the rant, here are some photos of the progress up until yesterday. I'll try to get my father who is technologically challenged to send me some more pictures when the welding is done early next week.

    What we started with:

    Removing the dash
    [IMG]

Bottom of the floor, very rough... But surprisingly, only the front floor and areas under the tailgate were bad, the rest was still fine. Some holes in the rear floor from things being screwed down in the past but they will get tacked.

    Some progress
    [IMG]

Got sidetracked talking about the tailgate and then started working there in the middle of doing the floor.
We cut out the bottom section, I believe it's called the rear valence, and replaced it with some pieces of angle... Left the center notch out for now, until it's time to put the body back on the frame. Might try to leave it straight across if it's possible.. We will see. But either way, we will cut it once it's going on the frame if need be. [IMG]

Going to weld up the rear fuel tank fill hole, since we are using an under seat gas tank like it had before. My guess is that since it's a mid 70 build, the body was stamped with both, but the tank was under the seat. We found in the cab a rubber gasket that fit in the hole perfectly so I guess that's how it's always been. Also replacing the drivers side metal under where the door would go.. There was some serious filler there and the metal was almost wrinkled underneath. It was still solid but so messed up that we decided it wouldn't be very hard to weld in some new metal. Couple other things... Made a reinforcement bracket for the rear drivers side fender where it meets the tail-light metal, the passenger side had reinforcement from the factory since the spare tire was there, but the drivers side was flemsy. We will have to weld in body mounts for the rear crossmember... But I didn't see any there from before so that is confusing. Can't remember what was there when we took it off. Going to fill in all the holes from the snaps that were needed for its old soft top, don't plan on running a soft top so getting those welded up will be nice. Also the old spare tire holes, since the new spare will be on the rear bumper.

Hopefully I can get some decent pictures up soon. It's killing me not to be there with it, dang thing has become a part of me it seems. I have no idea what I'm going to do with myself not having something to do in the garage for a while.

OH, almost forgot... We found the vin plate surprisingly. It was painted over and could hardly be seen... But the sequential number we thought was 364685 is actually 364665... So that was a surprising find. The frame stamps seem to show 665 also, it just looked like it could have been an 8.

I think that's all for now, will pick up the transmission soon. Left the radiator here bc I might get it re-cored but it's not leaking... So I'll have to do some research to see if that is needed. Sorry for the long post, just a lot going on...

Wow what a long time without an update!

    Well here we go...

After about a month off from the project, we are getting back into body work. Just some more metal work and welding on the body. Also got the grill sanded down. Hope to get the body back down here in Orlando next week sometime and start some body filler work. Here are a couple pictures for the short update.

New metal welded in on drivers side
    [IMG]

Hinges that were welded on gone and some other cleanup
    [IMG]

    Primer, drivers side finishing up.

    [IMG][IMG]

Grill sanded down and primed, needs a little more work yet[IMG]

Hope to get hood and fenders done soon also. Still moving forward, sorry if the details on this post are a little lacking. Missed out on some of the metal work since it's up north with my father at the moment.

More of the same, moving along. Since these pictures, rear gas tank fill opening has been filled in since it doesn't have a rear tank. New metal in place on rear passenger side where there was some damage. Work almost done on passenger side.. Metal work should be finished by tomorrow.[IMG]

Metal work is done! Only left to do is cut the bottom of the body on the rear to clear the a-section of the frame. That will get done when we put the body and frame back together. It's on it's way back to orlando so I can get working on prepping it for paint.

Some of the finishing work.. I'll get more pictures when it gets here of the entire thing.

Also, we discovered our dauntless 225 is complete garbage...
From what I was told the heads are warped, that the engine was likely rebuilt in the past and done incorrectly. I believe I was told the water jets? Or pathways were blocked and did not allow the engine to cool. It has extensive water damage in the cylinders also. So unfortunately it's gonna be getting a later Buick 231 v6 from the first jeep we started that runs and just needs some TLC. Here are some awful engine pictures.

    Didn't look horrible: [IMG]

    Ouch....

Not much new at this point. Just plugging along at body work whenever i get a chance to work on it. Finally finished up the passenger side of the jeep. Today I finished the grill also and started the drivers side. Messed around a little with the tailgate and hood, still haven't touched the fenders. I must have been in squirrel mode today because I couldnt stay focused on 1 thing. Couple pictures I snapped today.

Passenger side: There is one small spot that was fixed after these were taken..

The body work continues... The grille is done and the passenger side is done. Just removed all the old paint from the fenders and still workig on the hood, might get rid of the hood and use the hood from the other JEEP, its pretty rough. Other than that, the driver's side is coming along, hope to finish it soon, then I'l move along to the rear.

Some decisons have been made, maybe... I attended Jeep Beach in Daytona Beach last weekend and although there werent ANY Early CJ's, I saw a ton of Intermediate and Late models. One in particular painted the exact color I was thinking mostly about. I was not thrilled with the way it looked on a CJ. Currently I am thinking of painting it the original 70 red color, President Red. I believe I will be most happy with seeing red when the garage door opens.. But we will see.

    Current Status:

With the tailgate, I almost want to keep it this way and hang it on the wall. Part of me thinks i could have done the entire jeep like this and clear
    coated it.

Thats it for now, should be getting all the little parts we need before painting is done like hinges, glove box door, and a new dash. Decided on ordering Walck's dash because its simple and doesnt have a radio cut-out.

At least none of the PO's drilled holes in the script area. They are hard to fix. For me, 4 holes. It took over 20 hours to get mine looking right. I tried to post photos, Photobucket is not my friend again tonight...
