brake pedal clearance

    The AA uses a standard old style MC from the old Chevy.

    External Slave..

    For your entertainment - here is a list of Wilwood parts I speced for a flatty Install:
    340-1290 - Brake Pedal ***
    250-3677 - Adaptor for Tandum MC
    260-4894 - Tandum MC for brakes
    340-1470 - Hydro Clutch Pedal Kit w/MC and Slave

    You could do it other ways, this just looked the smallest with seperate pedals for a freedom of mounting. The install in the Commando uses the big dual pedal setup 340-3950 with High volume MCs and a simular Hydro Clutch setup.

    The compact Cherokee pedals work very well. I took a set of pedals out of a 95' Cherokee and installed them in my flatty relatively easily and it only cost me $60 for the whole works at the pick-a-part. Here are the pictures of the install.

    I ended up using a YJ clutch master instead of the plastic Cherokee one along with a Howe racing pull type slave cyl. I am sure the Cherokee clutch master and slave could be made to work though.

    How do you think they would fit without the power setup? I have never found a manual setup that worked well (without tons of mods) out of a parts rig.

    Ave, nice set up, but I don't like 2 things personally. The slave cylinder is too close to the hood IMO, and I don't like the brake pedal past the steering column. I'd do that but my feets are big and I'd guaranteed get them jammed up.


    I do have some pedals from a 99 TJ....

    The pedals fit easily. You just need to cut a bit off of the top bracket and then add a bit of metal to reach the face of the dash to make it a solid mount. The pedal length is perfect. I had a YJ setup but it was way too much work to fit and the pedals are way too long. I am not sure about running a setup like this without a booster. I assume you could mod it to fit a manual master cyl. but you might need to adjust the pedal ratio to get enough leverage to have powerful brakes.
    The slave is close but clears the hood better than you think. There is at least 1/4" of clearance to the hood. I could go with a remote reservoir for even more clearance. The pedals have a real nice feel and stroke to them as is with plenty of foot room for me. The only thing I was going to do was move the pad on the brake pedal a little closer to the gas for better heel toe action when needed for shifting.
