I have tried the search for the plans to build a rotisserie.there was a thread a while back with pics and material list.I am at the point that I really want to put the tub on a rotisserie for body work and paint.iIwill probably sell it when the project is done. THANKS for any info.

Got the rotiserrie finished. This is my version of Tommy B's plans. I made a couple of changes. The D-Rings were left over from a previous project.

Wow, turned out great. Really pro. Looks like something store bought!

I`d like to see pics once you bolt your tub to it. I am not quite to this stage but its something I want to get into when I get a CJ-6.

Gentlemen, I have seen TommyB's rotisserie in person, I have fondled it with me own two hands. And let me tell you, it's a thing of beauty! He unlocked the hubs on that thing, and I could roll his tub around effortlessly, like a pig on a spit! Wasn't hard to turn at all, just a gentle push or pull, stop it where you wanted and lock it down. Perfectly balanced.

I'm definitely going to (attempt to) build one, but storing it afterward will be a chore. I'll also put larger, pneumatic-tired wheels on it so it will roll better.

Here's his pics of his tub mounted on it.

That is great. You have any more pics? Kinda funny.. but I see a few hat channels on that body that are absolutely non-existent on mine. Would be cool to see some comparison shots.

I also wonder, if a body is fairly flimsy of course some cross bracing to body mounts, etc should be added while on rotisserie, but what are the chances of some form of warpage when welding in new panels and the body being suspended by either end? Probably a silly question, common sense tells me all sorts of things - i`m just interested in others' experiences.

I'd recommend a good supply of string & straight edges to keep thing where they belong-

    As for hat channels-

There may be either one or two hat channels under the rear floor depending on vintage, I put four in.

Incidentally- here's how I built my rotisserie-

A couple of things i was considering are place some bracing as was suggested.after i get it mounted and check clearance with lower beam i might lower it by cutting a section out of stancion tube.the wheels are 6 " from nortern tool.they are very nice quality and super easy to roll or lock.but they do make it a bit taller.i also added the standoff bushings where the arms attach to the tub.this will let me get around the bolt .I plan on painting the tub on the rotisserie and then place it back on frame. will update when i get the tub mounted. thanks to Adam and Tommy B.

I may not be seeing it in these pictures but one way to help the storage problem would be to make the bottom stringer totally removable. Maybe like the portable engine pullers that have the legs that swing up to reduce space. You would still have the ends to contend with but at least you could put it against a wall (or against the ceiling????).

It is probably hard to see but on my version i did like tommy b suggested and made the long stringer in two pieces with a connector in the middle.also the stringer slides out of the stancion piece so it is totaly storable in to small pieces .I'M sure others will have ideas of there own when they build one.BTW the paint was left over because i decided not to use alpine green on my engine. mike s.[IMG]

Oh yeah, it all comes apart, but storing the parts in my little garage is the problem. I've just got too much stuff in too small a space.

Understood. If I kept everything I built I'd be overrun as well.

I just couldn't see how it disassembled in the pictures presented and sometimes people think that they have to store things like this in one piece.

Here it is with the tub mounted.I will again give credit to Tommy B. FOR THE EXCELLANT PLANS and material list. works great . not sure about his friends post ,but anyway here goes.I followed the dimensions to a tee.the only thing I would do is make the stancion tube 6" shorter as TOMMY B. recommended.I have posted pics on my rebuild thread also.

How long are your stand off bushings? What are your plans for the D rings?

Dan the bushings were some i had laying around there 1.250" long and .625" o.d. the D-rings were also on hand so i put them for pulling in to trailer and tying down when i take it to body /paint shop.the plan is for this thing to remain on the rotisserie until it is painted and ready to reinstall on frame.
