 Ok... I'm ready now. I had Bella out at Oregon Inlet a couple weeks ago and she died on me. I've had her on the beach before with little trouble so I couldn't figure out why she died this time.

It was real hot out, and the sand on the ramp was real loose. In retrospect I should have used 4-LO, but I didn't. So after pulling onto the sand she seemed fine, then I noticed I really had to get on the gas and the tires weren't turning as much as I thought they should be with how high she was idling.

I tried to go for 2nd, but she died and wouldn't crank back up. I checked the fuel line, nothing broken, checked the radiator, relief valve fine and plenty of fluid, checked fuel filter for something clogging it, and it was fine. Starter was working but she didn't want to turn over. I waited about 10 min, tried and she turned once and crapped out again.

I waited another 15, ****ed as hell at this point and flooded the hell out of the carb while cranking and after a few nervous irregular turns she started. I got on down the beach and got a little fishing done, but was still nervous until I left and I ran her close to hot the whole way off, b/c i didn't want the engine to go again.

Now back on the street she seems fine and life it well, but I like going on the beach and don't want another episode later. Any suggestions?

Maybe the tide was making her nervous.

Sounds like either an ignition module problem, or maybe your Jeep just doesn't like the beach. Just because you like the beach doesn't mean you can force your Jeep to go there with you every time.:)

Sounds like you need to take me out to the inlet so I can diagnose the problem as it happens. Anything biting out there?

    Bring me also.

I am voting either vapor lock or if you have an HEI the oh what do you call it the thing in the rotor, that might have overheated. Yeh and Jeeps don't like soft sand in 4hi, I think we killed our ZJ auto tranny that way.

I betcha that was it. Having a carb for the first time in my life is presenting me with an all new set of challenges I've never known before. Thanks for putting up with stupid questions.

If you fellas ever feel like going out, just let me know. I'm always up for some surf casting! No one around here appreciates Bella's smooth ride and wonderful handling on the beach, R) so its hard for me to get takers sometimes.

I'd reroute the fuel lines as far away from the exhaust & engine as possible. (The factory routing was far from optimal, in terms of keeping heat away from the fuel components!)
