Having a similar issue now. Curious how you wired it. Did you connect the thin gray wire that runs from driver to passenger side on front of intake to keyed positive (i assume that is to the idiot light)? My original alternator had both thin gray wires (one from regulator and the other one I described) going to the small auxillary outputs on the motorola alternator. Now I have a larger Delco 3 wire and I have the green field hooked up to F, the ground from the regulator grounded to the alternator, and I have a thin gray from the regulator going to the Sense port next to the field connection. I am starting to think both thin grays should be going to a keyed positive and nothing to the Sense port. So I would have a ground, positive, field, and the thin grays to a keyed source.

So you have that old 3 wire Delco using an external regulator?

Its a Remy 20169 I had on my shelf. Came from an old 60's GMC truck I had. It was externally regulated on the GMC truck so I started wiring it through the stock voltage regulator. I'm not sure this alternator can be run on my Jeep without the GMC regulator though. Any thoughts?

I have never tried to connect a Motorola electronic regulator to a Delco alternator.

The idiot light should have been lit at all times even when motor not running.

Hmm. Then there shouldn't have been any drain? Oh well if it works it works. Good deal.
