I know in the Chevy Blazer the years from 74 - 78 were prone to body rot. I'm just wondering if there are any years I need to look out for.

I recently obtained a pass side fender from an '80 CJ5 to replace the damaged one I have. it only had a small rust hole in the rear side of the fender, I thought no biggy, I'd just cut out to the good metal and patch it up, BUT i kept cutting and cutting and now it seems that the entire rear side is full of rust and thinning out. I figure it would be better to chuck this piece and opt for another, but I dont want to get another one only to find the same thing.

My '72 original was alot more solid than this '80 one. Made me think about the old Blazer and its flaws.

    you guys have any ideas?

Not that I know of, although AMC was keen to reduce vehicle weight by 1980 (CAFE pressure). It'd be interesting to comapre the weight of an '80s fender with one from the early '70s.
