These clips keep riding up. Is there a secret or do I have the wrong part?

There should be a notch in both shift levers for the top of the clip to seat in to keep that from happening/..

On my MB, there was actally a hole the transfer case shifter rod went through to hold them in place. I spent a fair amount of time with a towel or bungee cords wrapped around the shifters to cut down on the rattleing. I suppose you could bend some small ears on the end of the slot so it wouldn't ride up. Don't know, I don't have this problem in my 3B and the Commano is the qurkey J shift system.

I suppose after driving old Jeeps for over 40 years a bit of rattleing is sort of what comes with the experiance.
Over 30 years ago I pulled the radio out of my 3B. I couldn't hear it anyway while on the road even with good speakers and while in a camp, I had no need to listen to a radio. Yeah,my transfer case is noisy but I don't believe I can break it.

Mine were were gone when I got my CJ5. I loosened the set screw and removed the shaft the handles pivoted on and found out they were worn severely. With to much wear the anti rattlers will not stay in. I replaced the shaft and drilled and re-bushed both handles to fit the shaft and reinstalled new rattlers and a new grease zert. Works great. It is best to remove the floor pan for easier access. It took a little persuasion and leverage to get the shaft to move , but when it did everything came apart. I bought the brass bushing with the correct in side diameter at NAPA . Drilled the handles in my drill press and fitted the bushings and reinstalled in very short order with the new rattlers and greased well. Everything was like new and very snug and shifted well.
