I've done the search and have settled on Shell Rotella F1 straight 40wt. It's hard to find, Tractor Supply is the only source near me. I can find the Rotella F4 15w40 everywhere. Benefits or drawbacks to either one. I'm changing the oil pan gasket so now is the time to change oil. Was running Castrol 10w40. Want to switch to a diesel oil as suggested for the flat tappets.

I prefer 15w40 since it flows a little better when cold.

The new CK4 diesel oil isn't much different than any of the other automotive oils nowadays. If you're worried about your flat tappets, you would be better off running a break in additive every oil change than trusting the new diesel oils.

I run Racing Valvoline 10/30 for the high zinc content.

I think you'll be fine with the 15W-40.

We can argue oil all day but Rotella has a good reputation for the zinc/tappet issues and is at the very least known amongst all sorts of people who run old engines *not* to do any harm to them.

It seems like you can run rotella in pretty much anything. That Valvoline racing oil isn't a bad idea either.
