Even though this is a DIY build, I'm willing to bet most of us don't have half of what this guy has in his shop to build this project?

"Shade Tree" build. No shoes?!

Now we're talking. Notice his shop tools...Wood.

For the time that first one would take to make you could go to Harbor Freight and buy a real chop saw with a disc large enough to do something bigger then 1.5" tubing. For like $80 I just use my 4x6 Horizontal/Vertical Bandsaw for most of what he's talking about.

Maybe if I was on a desert island with no other tool.

But I already have about four angle grinders for different purposes.
I can't spare any to do the jobs of other tools.

My general experience with angle grinders these days is that they last about 20 minutes.

I have a mitre saw & use with a diamond blade that works OK, probably I should get a real cut off blade for it.

My Dewalt angle grinder is over 20 years and have replaced the brushes 3 times and replaced the gear grease once and it just keeps going.

My Dewalt is probably 15 years old and does dedicated parts cleanup duty with a wire cup brush. Only thing I've fixed is the cord 2-3 times. The Makita in the work truck gets used daily. Its around 10 years old no repairs. Primarily has flap disc duty.

I think the guy is creative and if you like those projects fine but its not cost effective. Farriers gripe all the time about making tools vs. buying them. My time is worth too much and they all wear out at the same rate.

METABO is the one that we used in the field, expensive but the best. As I was getting close to retirement Metabo's came on the scene. They would cut anything. Including fingers. The blades were $3.00 each, making them a little expensive for the average garage, but for construction they were the ticket. On the job you could cope angle iron to fit like it should without a torch, no grinding slag. With a little practice you could make precision miter cuts that fit perfect and save time welding. The Metabo was over $300.00 for a 5" cutting tool, but save a lot of time in fabricating.
