    hey yall;
    I have my 73 cj5 with the amc 304 and t150 3 speed Trans. I am going to be pulling them out and installing the 4bt and the t19. The only thing is I can’t find any other running amc 304's online to set my engines price at. She has a mid cam, edelbrock mid rise manifold, edelbrock Webber cars, and holly long tube headers. She is in great condition, no weird noises. I want to sell the engine and the trans but don't want to lose my wallet on it all for selling too low, but I would like them gone sooner than latter so I don't want to make the price way to high. Any idea what the engine and the trans might go for separately?

    thanks! Jessek.

    I don't know of anybody other than Jeep folks that might be interested in the T150, and I'm not entirely certain on pricing for it, but I'd figure it's worth a couple hundred bucks. The engine, as a good runner, has a bit more value, as it's the same basic engine that was used in lots of AMC cars, and there is a pretty healthy aftermarket with the hotrod folks. I'd *guess* you could probably get in the neighborhood of $800-1000 for the engine if you advertise in the right places. But I don't know your local Market, so YMMV.

    Edit: I just checked fleabay, and I see "reman" long block 304's are asking $2250, so you might be able to get a little higher than what I figured, but I wouldn't count on it, too many guys out there selling "fresh rebuilds" and "good runners" that end up not being to try asking that sort of money, as whoever buys it is probably going to tear it down and have a look anyway.

    Should be a T-15 if it's the original transmission. The T-150 is a Ford passenger car transmission, and was used in CJs 1976-79. The Borg-Warner T-15 was used with the V8 in CJs and Commandos 1972-75. Only similarity is that they are both 3-speeds. That said, the T-15 is a better transmission than the T-150 and has some value. Parts for the T-15 are getting scarce, so it has some core value, at a minimum.

    Re the 304, the only way you will get fair money for it is if the buyer can hear it run and look at the OP and compression. 304s are more scarce than 360s, but swapping in the more plentiful 360 is a much easier and cheaper way to get more HP than hopping up a 304. The 304 has some value as a factory engine, but not much value as a basis for more HP.

    I think $800-1000 for a 304 in factory trim is reasonable IF you can hear it run. That's assuming it has good even compression and hot idle oil pressure of say 20-25 psi minimum. If you have any speed parts on the engine, I'd suggest you remove them and sell them separately, if you can.

    All I can speak to is the market in which I live. An AMC 304 is almost impossible to sell at all here. There is currently a complete 360 for $100 on Craigslist. It is always better to sell a motor that the buyer can hear it run before pulled. Once it is pulled, it basically becomes a core. Until the scrap price plunged in the past year, I actually was able to get more money for the AMC motors as scrap then to sell them as running motors. The one exception to that is people are willing to pay crazy money for a 401 still. When Summit can sell a brand new Goodwrench 350 long block delivered for $1500 it is tough to get any money for a 40 year old 5 liter motor. As always, your experience may be different.

    I swapped a 4 speed into my 75. Ended up giving the T150 away.
