    First I would like to own up to fact that I #%&@*! up. Never ever let your core go back to FLAPS.
    I did just that. Could have rebuilt it. After several attempts to get the correct one. Ended up at NAPA, which by the way, is where my brother purchased it when he rebuilt Jeep in the early 90's. Perfect fit.

    Yes, never turn in your core. Or at least not until you've been driving around on the replacement for a while. I have commiserated with more than a few unhappy auto parts customers who wanted their core back after they had turned it in.

    And always strip everything you can from your core before you turn it in. Tags, labels, brackets, anything that did not come with the replacement.

    I use a local alternator shop to rebuild mine and avoid using "rebuilds" as the cool flaps that dealt in quality parts closed a few years back.

    They can also custom build units and repair/rebuild starters.
