I got my new gas pedal installed on the jeep last night, fits really nice after making a few bends and remounting it to the pivot. I still have a bind somewhere in the cable, it just feels like it is rubbing on something. I am concerned about length of the cable. Right now i have the cable doing a vertical "loop". It comes out of the fireway, then does a loop and then hooks onto the bracket then hooed tothe carb. I didnt think the loop is that extreme, i think i had enough length on it, but I am thinking differnt now. I was wondering if i got a longer cable and looped it around the carb and then intothe bracket and into the carb. I am using a universal cable now but wull probably get a jeep on again. Does anyone have pics of how the cable setup is used on a stock jeep?? Doesnt matter if it is a early CJ5 or a later jeep, just curious on how they run the cable and how much loop is needed to prevent binding.

I was going to post a pic last night of my setup but i forgot too :(

    Thanks!!!

I'd guess that the longer the cable, the smoother the bends must be. My truck cable is only about 18" in length and bends more than 90 degrees in that distance. You also have to have the cable come straight out of the cable sheath at each end - an easement of sorts.

BTW the first universal cable I had was from Terry Cables, and was 4' in length.

    Want pics of my pickup?

What about a stronger return spring?

Dan, I have good luck with the Lokar products. Long and short univeral cables are offered. All stainless. Stainless outer sleeve and Teflon liner. No binding problems. Cut to fit the length you need. AM

My cable has a 3" diameter loop and it works fine. I had to wire tie it together to keep it from coming uncoiled.

I am using the cheapie Mr. Gasket one. It seems to not work as well as the jeep one i had. I had 2 springs on it, and removed one and changed it to differnt locations and it was still rubbing or binding somewhere. I may have to rethink this. bad thing is my firewall is very close to the bracket where the cable will hook into and then attach to the carb linakge, i think the binding maybe there since it is really really kind of looped tightly there. It didnt look so bad, but it maybe the source of the binding. I just want a smooth throttle again.

Well I got home tonight and took a look at my cable setup. looks like the cable was binding on the bracket before the carb connection, it was at an angle in the bracket so it was rubbing

Here is a pic of the setup.

i am going to go get a longer cable and loop it around the carb and attach to the bracket. I am going to modify the bracket to make it move forward a bit so it will have more space for the loop.

Dan, it looks to me like the cable changes directions abruptly when it leaves the sheath.

The green arrows show the directions I see. You might be able to make it work smoother if you put a tywrap or some wire around the cable and bracket where the pink arrow is. Pull the sheath down towards the manifold. This would make the the cable exit straight out of the sheath and not bind (maybe).
