I posted this question in my build thread and was told that it was prob a better idea to post it here, so here it is. I am trying to remove my original steering wheel and cant seem to do it. I asked this question when i first started my build but the thread i started was deleted, which leads me to ask again (sorry). So anyone with any pics and/or advice about getting the original steering wheel off, please post! Thanks alot!!!

Just type in split bearing puller on you browser and a picture and price will pop up. I tried to copy/paste for you but it wouldn't work. You will find many uses for this tool or you may be able to rent one where you are. Just get the one that comes closest to the diameter of the column and put the flat surface of the puller against the bottom of the wheel. You can search on this forum and there was a picture someone had posted of one in use but pictures don't stay up long so it may be gone. HTH

Yes on the split bearing puller, I just took mine off. Youll need another pair of hands. I didnt have the bottom plate so I used 3 "C" clamps an pulled on the spokes of the wheel. not the best, but it came off easy with the puller. Tip if the puller is new oil the theards so they will turn easy an not bind.

Thanks for the advice. I'll look into getting one of those pullers. I may go to the autopart store in town and see if they have one for rent...unless its cheap enough to just buy out right. thanks again guys for the replys, really appreciate it.

ya alright...i got it now. Dont ask me why because i really dont know, but not only do i know what that puller is, i have used them for several years and have 2 different size ones sitting in my tool pile. Haha, never heard of it called a "split" bearing puller so i think the word split was throwing me off. Thanks again.

Thats one of the pictures I remember seeing in the old thread. I have a puller but not sure if the arms are long enough to grip the base of the wheel. i will give it a shot with the puller but may end up going the home brewed way.

Bearing puller was just braking peices off the wheel and popping off so I rounded me up a strap and a small bottle jack and went to town. That wheel was bending in all kinds of ways before the load bang. To show how much preasure i had on it, the second picture is exactally where the wheel ended up...i touched nothing. Thanks everyone for the advise.

Aren't you glad you were not sitting in the seat when that let loose?
