I was looking at my saginaw gear box the other day and seen that it had 14:1 stamped on the side along with the part number and so forth. Now I dont know much.....ok ok I dont know diddley about these set ups and would like to know what 14:1 means. I know it has to do with the gearing and turn l to l but would love an experts advise and wisdom. Thanks.

My guess is the power steering ratio. For every 1 turn of the steering wheel (i.e. 360 degrees) the wheels move 25.5 degrees....roughly. Divide that down and you get 14:1. I had to google it for a minute to make sure I had it before responding. :)

That makes sence, thanks alot. The box I will eventually use is a saginaw 14:1 from an old Chevelle I beleive. But due to finances and my build taking WAY longer then I wanted, the manual steering has to go back on which I aint looking forward to since I am now lower geared and locked in the front and rear now. It was hard enough to steer him with it being stock cept for a small lift and 33's. Better eat my spinich haha

Tell me about it. I am in the process of upgrading to power steering now and mainly due to my locked front end. On the trail the steering can be difficult to say the least. Cheers! :)
