Well…. My knee was feeling pretty good today so I went out for a drive to see if I could operate the clutch. I was able to work the clutch pretty well so I decided to run the JEEP around town to get some errands done. While sitting at a stop sign waiting on traffic I had a lady blow into the back of my JEEP at 30mph never even attempting to hit brakes. She attempted to flee the scene but was unable to get her car from under the JEEP and it had attached itself to the springs. I ended up detaining her waiting on CHP. She ended up being welllllll over the legal limit of intoxication to operate a motor vehicle and had no insurance and I only carry the minimum on it as I don’t drive it that often except in summer. After getting it towed home I started looking under it and am seeing damage to springs and shackles, also a little damage to body but not that much I can see. Now my neck and back are starting to stiffen up and I banged my knee when she hit me.

I’m going to start pulling parts off of it and take some measurements to make sure things are not bent before replacing parts.

Man, I swear half the drivers are crocked at any given time. I had a lady rear end my pickup once. When we went to separate the vehicles, her radiator was skewered on my pintle hook. Hers was totaled, I think I had some of her paint on my bumper. Hope you're not injured. No jeep body damage?

There is some minor damage to rear of body, I need to look a little closer to see how much, I was more concerned with the mechanical issues. Also my new exhaust got pushed forward.

And no recourse for you unless you spend more on a lawyer than you may be awarded.
    Hope you are physically alright.

Ugh! That is awful. Some people suck. Glad you weren't hurt and it sounds like the Jeep isn't as bad as it could be.

In this day and age, good luck. No one is held for responsibility anymore or should I say irresponsibility.

Don't worry about the body work until after Rubicon. :(

I crawled under the rear of the JEEP today, little tuff as I did end up banging my knee I just had redone.. :banghead:
My uncle came by to help me, retired collision repair guy for 45 years. We started pulling measurements on the frame, doesn’t appear to be any damage to the frame itself. The drivers rear spring hanger is bent and the spring is trashed, along with the shock being bent on that side. Pulled off the rear exhaust section and it’s bent, doesn’t look like it did any damage to the front sections. Also the brake line and rear caliper are damaged and she got into the rim, not sure if rim is bent or axle is bent, that’s on tomorrows list. Also will be looking at passenger side springs and hangers. I also have a new leak from rear of transfer case by the output, will look closer at that. I’m sure we will find more the more we tear into it.:poo:
When she hit me she bounced off my homemade rear bumper and basically drove under the JEEP lifting me up onto her hood. She did contact the rear drivers corner. What I did see I need to investigate a little closer is she pushed the body upward and I have 2 stress marks showing where the rear body mounts are welded on, this requires dropping gas tank skid plate to get better look. This will be a Cha Lange also because the skid plate is tweaked up into the gas tank and I need to figure out how to relieve the mangled metal to get it off.
Prior to yesterday I had been going through everything on the JEEP to make sure it is Rubicon ready, don’t want to be that guy. Changed all fluids, belts, hoses. I did find 1 thing that was a major issue, where I had drilled the knuckle on the Dana 30 to insert the Go-Fer-It inserts and welded them to the knuckle had Broken loose in the hole and had wallowed it out causing slop in the steering. I made an insert on the lathe and tig welded it in and reassembled, no more slop. That’s 1 victory today I needed.

It’s been 2 weeks since I’ve been home to even look at the JEEP. Took the wife to the coast for our 25th wedding anniversary.

This gave my knee some time to heal, I banged it pretty good when I got hit and it’s been giving me problems ever since, I see my surgeon next week to make sure I didn’t hurt it to bad.
I talked to my insurance company yesterday, they are going to cover this under my uninsured motorist insurance, (Cali requires insurance to register/drive a vehicle and requires us to carry uninsured insurance). . " only caveat is work needs to be done at a certified shop.
That being said I started a list of parts I need to order.
    2-YJ rear springs
    2- YJ shackles
    1-YJ spring hanger
    4-unbolts
    2-rear shocks
    Driver disc caliper
    Brake lines
    1-rim
    Long side axle, bearings, seals
    Rear gas tank
    Metal for gas skid plate
    Latch for tire carrier

still need to look at rear drive shaft and rear output of transfer case, and the rear body mounts. Looking at rear quarter panel, top is pushed in about an inch.
I need to get this done before July
