The only ones I can seem to find only fit the 76 and up. I've seen the Sunco and Summit Racing stuff but was curious if you guys knew of an OEM style source. Oh and whats the difference in the 76 and up models? Bigger holes?

Mine had this style that seemed kinda hodge-podge but may have well been factory.

I switched over to this style from summit that seemed to match better.

Autometer classic series matches very well. Even down to the shape of the trim ring.

It's actually Auto Meter, not Summit, although they are sold by Summit (as well as many other vendors). I have the same Auto Meter classic chrome series gauges and love them. Stewart Warner made the original gauges and also offer similar replacements.

I would recommend replacing the AMP gauge with a voltmeter, which is much safer. The amp gauge runs the entire electrical amperage through the gauge, and have been known to start more than one fire when they short out. Voltmeter just needs a 12v source to read voltage, doesn't have to be high amperage.

Are those guages direct replacements? Same size holes? Same wires? Same number of wires?

Holes are exactly the same size, but wiring will be up to you and the type of gauge you replace it with. I used a mechanical oil pressure gauge rather than electrical just because I find them more accurate and reliable. Some people dislike them because you then have a nylon line running into the cab carrying hot oil under pressure, and if it breaks it can be a mess. But that doesn't concern me much. You will have to do some basic wiring to install the lights for the gauges. It's as simple as wiring gets, though.

If you replace the ammeter with a voltmeter you will have to do some rewiring, as they do not use the same setup. You will have to splice the heavy gauge wire feeding the ammeter together or the engine won't run. The voltmeter just needs a 12v + source, which can come from the ignition, or headlight switch, or any key-on 12v + source.

If you go with a electric oil pressure, it will use all the factory wiring, you just need to swap out the factory sending unit for the auto meter one. Power, Ground, Sender, Lighting

I found something that would eventually turn out bad. I'm currently replacing my ammeter with a voltage meter. I've wondered why I have a red 10 ga wire coming off the alternator and a yellow 12 ga feeding the battery via the terminal on the solenoid. I found the changeover point was at the ammeter. That long run of 12 ga from the ammeter to the battery must have gotten hot in the past because insulation had melted behind the dash on that wire. I am going to run a new 10 ga wire directly from the alternator to the battery terminal of the solenoid.

That could have turned out bad.

I can attest to that as I have had 2 melt downs - never a fire luckily but when the Jeep dies and smoke comes out from under the dash it is scary. Usually the failure is due to a PO's poor wiring repair but if you do keep the Ammeter at least fuse the wire with a large enough fuse ~30 amps should do it.

Still a little wile out for me, but I need to start looking for replacement gauges. All the replacement gauges - remakes, and NOS - I can find have crome rings. All my gauges had black rings; speedo, oil and amp.

Any one have a link or a recommendation on where to start looking? Or mayby some black ring gauges they want to part with?

Try this site. http://www.egauges.com/ Have several gauges to choose from, Autometer, VDO, etc. I used them when replacing my guages and received good fast service.
