well I got the gas tank doors, mirrors off yesterday, the top is unbolted and just sitting on the tub ready to come off. Found a bird nest on top of the filler neck for the tank. This thing sat for 2 years when I found it in a field, the original owner still had it and told me I could have it for a dollar because the engine was locked up, all I had in my pocket was 88 cents so thats what I paid for it. I had it running the next day, a little penetrating oil on the rusty rings was all it took to turn the motor over. I put around 50 miles on before I decided it was to dangerous to be on the road ( didn't want to run once it warmed up). Then it sat for 3 years due to a deployment to Iraq but now I am going to get hard at it and get her done. Ill upload some photos from my phone because the DOD computer nazi's dont allow photobucket on govt computers.

I got some more done on the jeep yesterday, removed the top, radiator, r/h front fender. Its was all coming apart pretty easy until the second to bottom bolt holding the fender to the tub snapped off.

    Radiator bracket broken

the seal under the windshield looks brand new, no rust in the rest of the windshield metal thankfully

Why did jeep use a two piece fender, the seam where the two pieces come together are very rusty, I think I am going to need new fenders. Anyone have good luck with replacement fenders?

Picked up a tub off a 61 for $100. It's not great but its a lot better than what I have now. Hopefully I can make one out of the two of them.

Had a few hours free this evening so I worked on the jeep, a few more odds and ends and the tub will be ready to pull.

Pulled the steering wheel with a homemade puller.

What exactly is this, I think it has something to do with fuel.

It pulls the vapors from the fuel tank and depending on engine load it runs those into the intake via Vacuum.

None that I know of. You may not pass an smog test if it is not there, if it is required in your area.
