I bought a project 64 tuxedo park. A couple things are raising questions about the originality. These things specifically - 3 speed manual + rev, original paint looks like arena yellow or prairie yellow (neither a 64 color) 64 has the transport yellow but that looks much different than this, and a steel bumper (ALL tuxedos have chrome?). The vin says it is a tuxedo, and it has the hood emblem. Does anyone else have an opinion on this?

[IMG] [IMG] < that is the yellow in question. [IMG] <see colum **** and on floor?

**update 2/8/10 - so the current color looks pres. red not sure why I am seeing that yellow underneath. but, based on this I'll probally keep pres. red. It looks like there is a piece for the colum shifter, but it is the 4 speed on the floor. would they have this piece on the steering colum if they made it 4 on the floor? all the rest chrome parts are there except bumpers and hub caps. Need to find hubcaps to fit the16" rim. I'm only seeing 15" hub caps for sale.

pretty sure all tux had chrome bumpers. Don't understand your question with the trans. Does it have the rest of the chrome, split front seat, etc etc that would make it a tux? So much stuff gets swapped around on these things, JEEPs in general, that nearly anything is possible. I am curious about the color. Could early or late 1964 production date result in another color being optioned?

It should have the shifter on the column, correct? Here's an original I have spotted that the owner won't sell. It's all there except the spare, hubcaps and steps, but I'd bet that stuff is in the barn. It was his Grandpa's Tux.

Not all tux's were column shift or had the split bench seat in front.
The '67 I just parted had no provision for the column shift stuff.
I agree, pics would be in order as lots of stuff gets swapped around on these things.

Diff years on the Tux got diff options. The Tux III (Surry) That I saw pic of had Chrome side steps. My 66 Tux options page does not list the steps but I know they came with them in Black as option. Does your Tux have the Trim tag on fire-wall inside eng compart passenger side? If so then will give color Nr. Should show paint/trim.

My 66/67 came with a floor mounted 3 sp transmission and bucket seats. It was also Yellow and the dealer said it was called Prairie Gold.

Great info so far! thank you. I agree w/ the fact that alot of these parts are mixed and matched, but the paint color is really what got me wondering. not sure if my camara can capture how different it looks than transport. but here are a few pics of the machine.file://C:\Documents and Settings\Chris\Desktop\car

Sparky has turned off attachment posting so as to protect the site. You will have to put your photo's in photobucket or Picaso or others and then post them here.

My 65 had column shift and a split seat. I wish she had never committed suicide, I really loved that jeep. My 67 is a nice jeep but is no tux. I had a friend suggest I put the chrome and emblems I was having redone on my 67m but I think that would be blasphemy. So I keep them on one wall of the garage and dream of the day I find another original Tuxedo.

If that is blasphemy you'll hate me! I recently parted a '67 Tux. The motor was seized, correct frame mounts were hacked, lots of parts missing. I bought it for the very nice tub and other body parts. In my defense though most of the Tux parts went to a guy with a bunch of them that is restoring them. I did keep the hood with emblems and chrome parts and the tailgate with the license plate bracket and light. Those are on the Daughter's '70 right now. I thought about keeping the very nice chrome tail lamps but thought they'd be better on an actual Tux along with the bumper and other parts.

Did you take the dash off? It "might" still have the original color underneath where the dash mounts to the cowl. Mine did.
