Yup, as noted above set the points gap. Better yet replace the points and condenser and gap to spec.

Years ago I had a '72 Chevy Luv running a little rough with points ignition, I forgot how I learned it but I borrowed my wife's emery board and filed the points a little, reset the gap, and added a new coil and the thing ran like never before since I got it. All you need to know apart from this is the gap specification. That being said I'm no expert but this worked for me on that Luv.
Edit. I should have mentioned that in that repair the greatest impact was the condenser replacement.

Newer points don't seem to take the file as well as older ones. Used to file em and were good to go later replacements seem to burn faster after the file.

Ok, put new points and condensor on it. I am now getting 12v all the way through the coil. Gapped the points .016. But still not firing..

If you are reading 12V on the negative side of the coil with the points closed then the breaker plate assy in the distributor has lost ground. With the meter connected to the neg terminal of the coil and engine cranking, the meter should read (voltage) 0 to 12V every time the points open and close alternately.

...and each time the points close, the coil should put out a high voltage spark.
You could set it up to test for a strong spark at the coil output wire, while opening and shutting the points with a tool.
