So here is the lowdown on the winter project.

My Coilover 5.3/4L65/Atlas 44/9" Flatty build has gotten pushed back a little farther as the wife is back in school for her RN degree. With that said I have a 71 Jeepsteer that is going under the knife to be transferred into a DD/light duty trail rig. I have acquired some parts in the past year so looking to start in the next month or so, but there will be questions I need answered along the way.

Currently it appears all stock with a 225/400/20 and 30/44. The motor is stuck and I will be parting out complete power train when I get it in the shop.

    My plan is this
    130k 99 5.7 with a carb intake
    4L60/231C w/manual shift
    3.73 gears
    72-75 Dana 44 rear
    Front ?,

That is my first question. I can build a DSD 30 or a 44 with what I have lying around as to run the 231. Or I can pick up an adapter to run a 300 and keep the PSD front axle. With no more than a 4" lift can a front drive shaft clear the tranypan on the 4L60?

I assume your talking about a non electronic 4L-60 or a late 700-R4 which are both one in the same!............in either case much more room going up the drivers side with the front drive shaft........no pan hanging out on the left & no starter. The right side would be tight!.............Not sure if that 231 will pull or like that 25% Overdrive in 4th gear...........I would suspect it would not.

Yes, 4L60(TV cable) not a 4L60E and the 231C is a T-case that is behind it, this will be getting the 350 SBC . I know that there will be more room on the drivers side, I'm wondering if anyone has or is running a 4L60/300 with a stock 30 in the front and what issues they have.

If your Jeepster is stock, your front axle is a D27. D30s with drums came in '72. It seems most guys ditch the two piece front driveshaft and go with a one piece. Not sure how the length of the 4L60/300 combo compares to the stock TH400/D20, but I think Novak or advance has all the numbers on their website in the info section. If you don't find the info you are looking for here, you can try the Jeepster Commando Club of America site. There might be a member there who has tried your proposed combo or is currently running it.

If you're not a member already you might want to join up and check over at the JCCA---http://www.jeepstercommandoclub.com/ I don't think there's too many engine/transmission/transfer case combos someone hasn't tried.

Truck looks darn complete to start with, that's a big plus. I plan to do a body lift on my 71, when I swap the tub and rebuild the floors, making the front floor drop lower for my tall self!

If your old old stuck dauntless engine has a good oil pan, I'd be interested in it.
