    That little tag will have three numbers on it - T18, a Jeep PN like 9xxxxx or 535xxxx, and a B-W part number. The Jeep PN would be interesting. Where's Jim these days?

    Looks like T18-1B cast in the side. Not sure what that means. The T-98 in the cover doesn't matter - it's inherited from the T18's predecessor.

    Isn't that a plate between the bell and trans?

    It certainly looks like it's been together for a good number of years, so that could lend itself to the originality theory. Only the one mount holding the tranny up seems suspicious though, no t-case support is scary. Bracket looks factory though, no doubt.

    Glenn the transfercase mount on a v6 large hole case is totally different than the 4 cylinder case, they don't mount on the crossmember they mount on the frame rail, he hasn't posted a picture that would even show the transfercase mount.

    Just for everyones knowledge, this Jeep may actually be up for sale soon. I am picking up a 68 this week that I just could not pass up and I have to choose between the two, and keep one. I am out of garage space with the one Jeep and I refuse to leave one outside to rot...

    Is there any more pics that I forgot?

    The side of the trans says:

    T18-1B
    WQ DIV

    The little tag says:

    994753
    AS9 T18C

    After it was mentioned about the T-case mount being at the frame rail I went out and looked. There is a bracket coming off the t-case and it comes within an eight of an inch of the crossmember that the other trans mount sits on but over on the passenger side. What is scary is that this bracket that comes off the T-case is in no way mounted to anything. It just sits there.. Is that normal?? This might be the cause of the vibration I get when I move in reverse. Here are a few pics..

    The WQ is actually WG for Warner Gear IIRC.

    The transfercase mount is missing then. It should go from that lug on the transfercase to a piece of 1/4" thick bent steel and then use a 4cylinder engine mount to bolt to the side of the frame rail.

    My swapped-in tranny that originated in a 70s full size Cherokee is also identified as a T18-1B, cast into the body. That probably only identifies the casting for the body and not which gearsets are contained therein. Mine had the mile-long input shaft and 6.32:1 first gear.
    I would expect this '71 to have the 4.03:1 first gear... but we won't know for sure until the tranny is opened or input vs. output turns can be counted.

    I have one of those T-18 with the long input shaft from a 1969 full seize jeep pickup that had a Buick 350. How did you modify the tranny to fit your rig?

    Removed the long Jeep input shaft, installed a Ford input shaft. Then used a Ford (Centerforce I) clutch disc. Used a pre-71 V6 bell with the T14 adapter removed and an AA adapter in it's place.

    I guess you could say everything was produced in a factory. :rofl: Since all of that stuff could have been added as noted, and proof is elusive at this point I think anyone would be sticking their neck out to say it's positively factory. But that's my personal opinion.

    I have been thinking about the theroy of someone doing the 4 speed T18 swap early in life and using factory off the shelf parts is highly unlikley seeing that we know this Jeep was owned by some form of government for the first part of its life. With the factory trans cover and the numbers being correct, then the rusty trans mount, with my limited knowledge I am convinced but I guess you could never be sure.. But I think I am right..R) R) R)

    the tag numbers provided agree with the parts book for a factory V6-T18
    transmission
