What you can't really see from the last photo, but the driver side of the rear frame is 'up' about 0.5" higher than the passenger.

Checking, the passenger frame horn is about 0.5" higher than the drivers... seems a little 'tweak' is in place.

I'd intentionally only snugged the u-bolts up... just found the shims for the rear, 5 minutes after snapping these photos... tomorrow, I'll remedy that...

There will be frame paint to touch up. There is axle paint to touch up.

Now I need to clean the garage out a bit so I can roll the frame indoors and put the engine in it...

OH, and I took my 220 pounds of self and jumped on the frame tonight. I jumped mid-frame. It doesn't budge. I'm sure it will ride like being on a buckboard. Looking forward to it.

Of course, I'm now ahead of myself.

I need to pull the valve covers and the oil pan on the engine to make sure all at least looks right. May give a buddy a ring on this -> tempis fugit, and I don't have time to get farther than the covers and the pan... (and those are the seals I have handy).

The springs will settle once you get everything bolted on. You may see it settle more than you thought it would and maybe not perfectly even too.

OK, I'll fix the dark and dank CL sytle photos...

NEXT up, dig the engine out of the shed and drain oil.

Pull the pan, pull the valve covers

    Going to pull the heads.

Will take for inspection, flux and may be a little more if it looks like it's worth it.

Since I'll have it apart, I'll plan on swaping the timing gears, and check tolerances on the oil pump...

and check the distro gear, etc...

Here we go... pictures to follow.

Oil drained tonight... Um, looked like north slope crude, had may be a half cup of water I'd guess as well, that has me mildly concerned (it was clear as if it was moisture based). I'd changed it when I brought it home, and it was similar, but no noted water (that was several years ago now, could be a wild remembrance tho...)

Hope to start pulling parts off the engine tomorrow.

Pulled the engine apart... found some bad JUJU - water got in the engine somehow while it was in the shed... can be rescued...

@tarry99 :: Going to have to outsource, I don't have the time to do it right. Buddy is giving me a fair deal to pull it, check it, do the work and put it back together for me,...

Likely will get new cam / bearings / lifters (lifters are a bit concave where they wear on the lobes), cylinder hone and a few other things.

Made a huge mess on the floor: dang. Trip earlier today to the hazmat facility to dump off some oil and oily rags (only had about 5gal total).

    And the bad stuff...

Since this is where it kind of unraveled on me, I took it to a buddy that's setup to deal with this.
We got it unstuck. The cam doesn't look bad, but the lifters being concave are telling a bit more (not as dished as the pistons, but there certainly is zero convex surface to them, so a new cam and lifters for certain.

Aside from this cylinder wall of rust at the top, the others have hardly a fingernail's hangup on them.

One side is dark-oil the other is pretty clean.

He will pull this apart for me, check the main bearings, the crank, hone things up and see how it goes. We couldn't see any major pitting on that cylinder even though it's got a lot of rust... will see what comes of it later this week.

Valves will get done, heads fluxed, all that.

The goal is to check it and do the minimal. Looks like a cam and lifters plus and related stuff needed.

I will know more probably on Thursday after it's been pulled apart, dunked and inspected.

Looking at the head gasket marks, you could see where the lines were bleeding over on a couple of cylinders... it was due.

Glad I pulled this apart before trying to turn it over.

Since you're going this far... Main and con rod bearings, new rings and a new oil pump, definitely a new cam and lifters and at least lap the valves and hone the cylinders real well. You're going to have to take these components apart to check, so why not just replace?

This escalated quickly with the engine. I knew there was a reason I never opened up my engine...

your spark plug holder that is attached to your valve cover. Is there anyway you can get more details on that? is it stock? I like it, looks very clean on a dirty engine ;)

piffey...Are these what you're asking about? They bolt down using the valve cover bolts.

Yes those are it, I have a different design on mine. I like the spread out look. I'm wondering if I could replicate them.

I'm sure you could...The metal is very thin. I could probably trace them and make a PDF?
