Hey if you don't want your motor, i will buy the core for $50.00 and pay shipping. I don't think you know what you have. The buick v6 is becoming rare. DON'T SCRAP IT.

Pull that engine and sell it for the 50 bucks.....(actually put it on ebay as somebody on there will give you a few hundred for it) Its the best thing you will ever do. If he is right about not "knowing what you have" then you should do a little research first; as the story of the duantless and how a Buick engine ended up in jeeps is a good one. The differences between the 225 and the 231 are of course size. The dauntless and early 231s (1972-1979) are externally ballanced odd fire and the later 231s are internally balanced even fire. the only real downsize to the 231 is that it has a 45# flywheel V. the 75# flywheel that the 225 has. The flywheels are swapable with the engine swap, but will need to be balanced for the 231. You can get another 225 at about any junkyard as they where dropped into everything from 1966 to 1971. After 1974 the 231 came out and those where dropped into everything up til about 1979. Don't get me wrong, as I am a hard core original stock guy, I even sold a 46 cj2a once because I found out that the engine, although the right one, had come out of a willys pickup.

Boy that's a new one on me. Sure you aren't thinking of the vaccum advance? Where have you read this was common? I googled "self adjusting timing buick v6" and just "self adjusting timing" and found nothing.

And FWIW - you can't, at least here in MI, just run to the junkyard and pick up a 225. The yards around here hardly have anything left from the 80's much less the years of the Dauntless. You'd be lucky to score a 231 in most cases.

I think this advice might apply very well to your "self adjusting timing" also.

And, keep in mind you're on a site dominated by 225 owners and you're saying the best thing he'll ever do is to get rid of this engine. :?

i most definently know what i have.... i was taking the top end off yesterday when i realized that i should try dragging it first (i remembered when someone said that on here, but that was before i knew it was frozen this bad) either way i was taking it apart. i have probly a 1 in 4 chance on not breaking the rings. but if i do, then i havn't lost anything b/c the 6 foot pull bar isint getting it, and i was taking it apart anyways. im really hoping that i can get it free somehow and will possibly be able to rebuild without any bore, and just a hone, bigger rings etc.. do you guys think it will free by dragging it?! something has to move right....

Try rocking it if you've got penetrating oil sitting in it.

    3.7L is a 3.7 AFAIK.

I've tried pulling one before. Clutch and everything worked fine, so we pulled it out to the road and proceeded to go a ways, dump the clutch, go a ways, dump the clutch... Repeated that for quite a while with no luck. Of course, we only tried MMO and only had it in the cylinders for a few days.

I'd sure give it a try since you have nothing to lose.

Not sure what you are thinking about oversized rings. The ring size is determined by the pistons - you can't use oversized rings without oversized pistons. If you try, the end gap will be too tight; then if you file the ends, you'll pretty much have std rings. What have you been told about rings, bores and pistons? I suspect you have some mistaken notions...

If you take the engine apart, you can possibly drive the pistons out of the bores. Lots of work, and may not be worth it for an engine that's scarce, but not really rare. If you have the heads off, try PB Blaster, kerosene, mystery oil, whatever in liberal amounts.

ok its not 100% yet but im going to look at a cj5 tomorrow that runs. haha for a few hundred bucks. if i get that i will most certaintly be getting rid of this one, so if anyone wants certian parts off of it let me know first come first serve. its a 67 jeepster commando, lots of rust. clutch works, gears are there and brakes are decent just need bleeding im sure. front end is in very good shape (as for fenders, hood, grille, lights etc... ill see what i can do about puting a pic on here if someone tells me how
