Im working on a sweet little cj5 project for a family friend! Ive done a lot to it so far to get is back to "normal". heres a before and after. The last thing is getting the fuel system back to normal... Someone put a fuel cell in it and Im deleting that. My question is....since it has a fiberglass body... does anyone make a filler neck indent that will work with the under seat tank. The PO said they put a newer tub on the old chassis..... so thats probably why they went with the fuel cell.....but that'sot going to work for us! Any help would be appreciated! thanks!

How are your fiberglass working skills? I'd get a good pattern and measurements from a steel CJ5, make a durable template, copy it on the side of the body and cut it out with a jig saw. The cut out piece will serve as the back of the indentation. The bottom of the indentation "U" is tilted in, make a cardboard template of the sides of the indentation, tape everything in place, adjust to your liking and glass it in on both sides. Once the glass is set up, grind/sand smooth, fill in any imperfections with body filler, prime and paint. Or find an original indentation and fiberglass it in place. I may have a metal indentation in my previously experienced parts, $40 including shipping. LMK if interested. Good luck!

Ron's (post #3) link would be close to original. It would be lacking the recessed surround though. I have a similar 'glass body that I need to do this too also. I want to replicate the shallow recessed surround for mine.

Yes, I believe they are.... As someone else stated shoes that are larger than average are "clown shoes" Same applies to tires and many other things in life... ;)

So here is what I came up with...

I used the fuel neck in someone above suggested and fit it into the fiberglass as best as I could. Since I knew if I painted it white it wouldnt match the gel coat....I just went with black to match the rocker guards I made. They are 3/16 steel.

Yeah it’s a 67 but someone put a 72 tub on it. At least that’s the story we got. Haha!

    Looks good.

My only suggestion is to not have the exhaust turn down...Great rock catcher.

I’m just telling you what the previous owner told us. The tub and windshield looks the same as my 79.

The friend I’m building this for asked me to turn them down. This is not going to be a rock crawler.
