I started installing some 11" brakes on the front of my 66 CJ-5. all went well until the right side and I slid the brake drum on, I have a slight rubbing against the tie bar nuckle. (I would guess about .030)
    1. should I grind the entire OD of the brake drum? :)
    2. grind a bit of the tie bar knuckle? : :?
    3. heat and bend the arm?
    4. other suggestions?

.030? thats a little thicker than a thumbnail. I would take a file and notch the "tie bar knuckle". Do you think it may rub more when there is some flexing of the suspension going on? Maybe someone will chime in who has done the swap and encountered the same situation.

How is the left side as compared to the right side? I'd first figure out what is different. Why does the right side rub if the left didn't?

I took a look at the left side, it has about .050 clearance. Could just be mfg tollerance build up?

sounds like it to me. would use the file on the tie rod, the drum would be too much of a pain in the but.

Some older stock wheels won't fit over the 11" drums as well.

Hello , when I got my 66 Cj5 someone had already put 11" brakes on it , they had put a washer on each of the wheels studs before putting the brake drum on . Everything clears BUT I don't know how safe it is BUT it been that way for a long time . nascar

There is a later-model set of wheel bearing races that will kick the hub out about .125". That should solve the clearance issue. I don't remember what setup they came from, mebbe the Dana 30? This was recommended for some disk brake swaps where caliper clearance was a problem.
