Hey I was wondering about MSD ignition. i saw that a few of you guys have them, and now that i got all the bugs out of my engine making it run right and all, it's time to do some upgrades.

I have the go-devil, It was rebuild. I have put an electric fuel pump on it. Fabbed up a high flow exhaust. 12 volt conversion, Delco Remy 10 alternator.

I would like to know a parts list i would need for a MSD conversion. Cost would be nice also.

For those of you who have MSD, did you notice any improvement? I know their is some.

You need an MSD unit, and GOOD 8mm plug wires. That's it.

IMHO the MSD-5A is good enough for an engine that will never see the far side of 4k RPMs, that's what it was designed for. The 6A box is more common, but more expensive and overkill on a Hurricane. Look on eBay or Craigslist, they pop up from time to time.

Yes, they do make a significant difference in starting & low speed performance. They ARE hard on caps & rotors though, they tend to burn up more quickly with the hotter spark.

    Mostly agree.
All multiple spark functionality quits at 3k rpm on most all boxes.
    6a new ~$180
6a used ... should get one for ~100, they work or they don't, make sure it works.
Wires (8+mm) can be had for ~$25 if buying a popular "universal" set (Chev 350, et al)
    :)

No, you'll still need an ignition coil.;)

Agree w/ Patrick. The point was that you just need an OEM coil, not an over priced super duper special coil :)
