I have run just about every carb known to man. My favorites in order.
    2BBL: Stock 2gc, Motorcraft 2100.
4BBL: Holly 450 Economaster (VERY hard to find) Qjet (I'm running one now and am very happy with it), 500CFM Carter AFB.
I have run a number of other carbs and have not been happy with them. These include virtually all Holly two and four barrel carbs (with the exception of the one above), Older Autolite 4BBL's. Ones I would like to try: Rochester two jet (primary side of the Q jet. Early versions fit the 4 BBL manifold.). The larger version of the 2G series found on V8 GM blocks. I also prefer electric chokes.

I can tell you from personal experience the Rochester Dual Jet is a great carb. I run one on the 231 V-6 in my CJ-5 and it works excellent in all angles. Not as good as FI but as good as any carb I've seen. Has a large centered float bowl so no starvation issues but doesn't flood like so many do. Just make sure you use one without the electronics except for electric choke. Came on late 78', 79', and early '80 GM V-6's without computer controls.

TA 470 can have a manual choke - just use the Holley kit to convert it.
