I ordered the u joints for the rear axle. I got the Moog 280. Found them on Amazon at 10 each. On Monday at work I will press them into the rear driveshaft. I know better than to try to do it at home. I have a nice arbor press that makes it a breeze to install. Also finished the bracket for the dual MC. Donny nicely lent me an original bracket and I made my own version of it.

Little by little... the rear drive shaft is in! As I suspected, I needed to use the arbor press to insert the u joint cups easily. Even so, one gave me a little bit of resistance. It would have been hell to do at home with a hammer and a vise.

I bought a flaring tool that by the way arrived 3 days earlier than Amazon had said. It works like a charm! Now to the brake lines!(y)

Rear axle lines. Still need to clean and paint the tee and the bracket, but that will be Monday, I'm done for the day. I am really happy with the tool. Very easy to operate and good flares. A couple of them came out weird and I had to redo them but I think is part of the learning curve. I err on the generous side when using the lubricant. As I make more flares I will update my opinion, but so far I am pleased. (y)

BTW, I bent the lines by hand. I reckon a tubing bender would have probably yielded more professional-looking bends. Next time!:D

Is there a way to affix those brake lines to the axle to avoid damage from rubbing due to vibration?

Now I'm waiting for the rest of the parts from Amazon. The residual and proportioning valves. After that, the finalization of the conversion of the front disks. The geo calipers are more expensive than I expected. A 25 to 30 core charge puts them around 150.00 a pair! I fabricated the brackets and when I was testing them for fit and function I realized that my change in the screws on the knuckle has to be redone. I used 3/8--24 by 1.25 in. Now I see they are too short! I will be replacing them. More work for nothing!

In the meantime, I started fitting the rear tank installation. A little grind here, a push there and it started to look good. I need to block a couple of tubings and re-solder the vent tube a tad shorter to clear the frame in case it needs to be removed.

An update on the brakes: when I started to fit the MC andthe bracket in the frame I suspected it was a little too big. About an inch and a half bigger! :sneak: A member of the forum provided me with measurements and yes, my MC was an inch and a half too big. Had to get another one.

Found a rear hose with the distribution block already attached. One less leak point!

While I am waiting for Rock Auto to deliver my calipers, I started assembling the Ross box. I have always wondered why the top of the box, where the tube enters is open to the elements. Any rain that leaks through the steering wheel will end up inside the box. Since I ended up with a spare top of the box (probably not the right name) I decided to try something. The o-ring hugs snug but not tight over the ross tube. If it does not work I can always replace it with the other one. 20200818_135219_copy_1238x1651.jpg 20200818_135856_copy_1651x1238.jpg 20200818_135914_copy_1651x1238.jpg

Finished the Ross rebuilding. Made my own copper washers. I decided to use 4 just for symmetry (ocd)!
I applied some of the copper coating I had used on the TC on the shims to seal them. Even though the lubricant should not get there, just in case. I also applied shellac to the gasket and the threads of the screws for the cover. Let's hope the lubricant stays inside!

I have right now a strong mixture of 85% frustration, 10% acceptance and 5% happiness. I am very close to rename this build as "One step forward, twenty steps back". I finished my tank relocation successfully. I am happy about it. I have now to redo a bunch of brake lines, to the point that I bought another roll off of Amazon. By the way, I went to my not-so-friendly LAPS and the 3/16 brake line that costed me 21 bucks at Amazon was priced around 56 bucks! I ran away from the place and ordered out from Amazon. Also, I finally got the calipers to finish my front brake set up and then I realized that my knuckle stud conversion was not done to accommodate the thickness of the plate that holds the caliper bracket! Now I have to re-do the whole thing in order to use 1.5 inch bolts instead of 1.25. Not fun at all. When I think I completed a section, here I go again to modify it. Sorry for the tirade but this is my place to vent. Here are a couple of pics to illustrate my frustration. Enjoy!

Having done a few modified vehicles in the past, I feel you. Once you stray from stock, it's a cascade of things not fitting together anymore. Perseverance will get you through and you'll have a better Jeep for it!

Finished the wheel hub! Pressed out the old studs (where too short when I added the caliper brackets) and pressed in the new ones. I chose to turn the extra splines on the studs instead of drilling out the rotors. I reduced them up to the thickness of the hub. I will try to put everything together this weekend. On a side note: even when the studs were marked as "Made in USA" I had to chase the threads to clean them. The nut felt really rough and uneven when I tried to install them on the studs. I guess that is what happens when you get the cheapos from RockAuto (1.53 each opposed to almost 4 bucks each someplace else).

Installed and aligned MC, prop valve and, after a feeeewww tries I got a decent routing on the brake lines and residual valves. I tried as much as possible to keep them away from the exhaust pipe. I might add a little heat shield on the pipe... let's see.
