Never heard of
M422a1 Mighty Mite Jeep
I so totally want that!
I always thought it would be cool to build one of those into an off-road rig, but I would also feel guilty about modifying it...
Those had chrome plated cylinder sleeves and are tremendously expensive to rebuild.
Have seen a couple with a VW diesel that made cool rigs. I like original, but if it is not do able then go ahead and modify it.
Interesting that they were a "successful" design, but being all about super light-weight for airlifting, they were quickly made obsolete by the Huey helicopter - which could lift heavier vehicles.
The ones I have seen would be super expensive to restore. Looks like really cool engineering.
Only the USMC had them and they designed them.
Those are terribly underpowered with that air-cooled engine. They also have independant suspension by way of 1/4 elliptic leaf springs, like my bug-eye Sprite.
There's one of these in the upper Keys that comes out to the local car shows. I drove his, and I think a moped could beat the Mighty Mite in a race. They are an interesting all aluminum vehicle with everything drilled to save weight.
V-4, that's gotta sound interesting..
Yes, like an old Wisconsin!
We where in an off road club in the 60s and 70s I remember some people with them.
