    Hello All!
I would be looking to mount a side mounted spare tire carrier on "Oscar" (our '74 CJ6 Project), but we have an added glitch. Considering the body cancer, I am contemplating mounting the full panel diamond plate corners that is available from JC Whitney. In all honesty, I have no idea at the moment how far the wrap-around corners protrude on the sides. Can a spare tire mount be mounted in advance of the wrap-around corner and still have enough "meat" to mount solidly on the side of a CJ5 or 6? Would a side mounted spare tire, which would most likely block the rear side marker, pose a problem with motor vehicle inspection or the police (we are in NJ)?
    Thanks, Ed

I can't be of much help with the diamond plate part of your question. As for the side marker, this is a pic of the original light mounted in the hole in the carrier (red lens missing in photo)

I now have the marker operational, but no photo.

    This has been discussed before-

    Long Story Short-

Do you have the reinforcement pieces in place?

Are your tires sticking out past side sides due to wider axles or wheels?

Do you enjoy driving through skinny places?

As for the side marker I don't believe thes are required by law but you could always relocate it to the center of the carrier.

The factory location for the side marker is in the center of the tire carrier, so if you have a side marker located on the body, someone moved it there. AFAIK the CJ-6 only came from the factory with the side mounted spare with the light in the middle, as in Dave's (farfle) pic.

Check your local laws, but I'm sure you'll need a visible side marker light.
