    Why a carb specialist vs diy? The specialist has the ability to fix issues that a diy kit won't cover. The last time I rebuilt the carb was in '86 and it just didn't seem to adjust right after the rebuild. Then it sat for ~15 yrs. Maybe a touch of laziness on my part :p

    Thanks. I will keep this in mind if I get frustrated with trying to make one. Busy at work and haven't found the time to attempt the lens manufacturing.

    Update. Machine shop left msg on phone. Gave them a call, expecting that they had found something else wrong. Guy on the phone asks "Where you experiencing low oil pressure with the motor?" I reply yes and why. He states that they are reassembling the motor and the oiler for the timing gear is missing. He got one to put in. After this call I now know the reason why I never saw adequate oil pressure. Bonus is that the motor should be ready to pick up on Friday. If I don't have to work this weekend the engine will be going back in the Willys. Lastly, my one original rim, the spare tire, was picked up from the powder coater today. Looks real nice and should be around for a couple more decades. Pics:

    The motor is back in the Willys. My refurbished Carter Carb YF should be ready to pick up tomorrow after work. Need to get some oil, Engine Coolant and a couple of filters so I can get the motor up and running and set the rope seal on the rear main cap. Looking forward to having the Willys back on the road and ready for a romp through the desert. :D:D:D:D:D:D:D

    Finally got into town and picked up my carb. The carb guy has the carb set-up to where it should not need much adjustment after the engine is running. The carb guy also told me to bring it by his shop and he will do the final tuning of the carb for me. I'm looking forward to this since I hope to learn a thing or two about fine tuning my YF. Anyways here is picture of the carb mounted on the engine:

    Of course now I have to research how to route and set-up the throttle and choke cables. Time to do some research....first I will peruse the information contained here at earlycj5. Of course any and all suggestions are welcome.

    in the first picture of the post #2. going to post a WTB for the bracket or maybe someone has the dimensions in order to make one.

    Thanks for the comment.

    Me too.

    Yesterday, I did the Rear Main Rope Seal setting by running the motor at 1500 RPMs for two 15 minute durations, with a cool down in between. The oil pressure remained steady and the temperature didn't rise above 170 degrees F. Even took it for a short jaunt around the neighborhood afterward. Looking forward to several trail rides with very little concern about having engine problems.

    Took the jeep out for a run around town and noticed the speedometer is now working. Compared the reading to the speedometer app on my phone and the instrument cluster reading is only 5 mph off, on the fast side. Must have knocked something into place when putting the motor back in. Not going to try and figure it out, just enjoying having a fully functioning instrument cluster. :):D

    Received the bracket for the carburetor in the mail today. Thanks Scoutpilot. Also, helped my buddy on his Fc-150 on Sunday. Ole Melonhead is coming along nicely. Shot a short, 19 seconds, video of the morning drive in the Willys heading to his house. Nothing special just liked how the shadow of the Willys looked on the desert terrain. Viewed best in 720 or 1080P setting.

    Glad you got the motor In and running, that was a cool video. I am thinking its time to have my carb professionally remanufactured/rebuilt

    Thanks montanacj. Check out scoutpilot's website: http://www.oldjeepcarbs.com/. Lots of information on the jeep carburetors. PM him and he might be able to set you up with a reputable guy to refurbish your carb or assist you in rebuilding yours.

    For what it's worth, I sent mine off to J&J Carbs in Fullerton CA. $130 to rebuild, adjust, flow on bench, etc. Rebuild includes blasting, aciding, whatever, so comes back totally silver. $65 extra and they send it out to be re zinc coated so looks like original factory. Mine expected to arrive early next week so will see how turns out. Plan to post before and after photos. Not cheap, but highly recommended by Mike's Carb, which has a very high reputation.

    Took the Willys to the guy who rebuilt my carb for some fine tuning. Everything adjusted well and took it for a spin around the block. Motor bogged like it was being governed when I stepped on the pedal. Turns out the replacement hose that goes from the carb to the air cleaner isn't made out of stiff enough rubber nor is it reinforced with a metal spiral. :n: Long story short the hose was collapsing do to the suction created by the motor. Removed the hose and the Willys gets up and moves, for a jeep with 5.38 gears. So, on the hunt for an NOS hose for the air cleaner to carb or maybe make a metal spiral to go inside the reproduction hose I have now. :)
