Here's where mine is located. I haven't ran a tube yet, but you basically extend the vent by using rubber hose.

No more than I worry about my brake lines, and with much less consequence.

Careful routing along horizontal and vertical parts should help avoid most snags.

No picture, but you thread in to the housing and insert a hose barb. Then you mount a fuel filter on the fender high up somewhere on the body and run a hose from the barb fitting to the filter. The filter keeps assorted crud out of the hose (bugs, mud, splash, whatever), and lets air pass in/out of the vent. Jeep started doing the same thing in the '70s, and they used a little plastic deally instead of the filter. Plastic Vent Cap

I can get you a pic of the filter on the firewall and at the vent.

On top of the transfer case there is a vent. I don't know about the T-98 but the T-90 vents into the transfer case so one extended vent takes care of both. Mentioning this just to remind you about the transfer case.

I'd presume there is a seal between the T-98 and Dana 18, just like the T-18 apps. I suspect the transmission vents through the shift top, around the shift stalk. Not much you can do about that. I know that rain water can go down the shift stalk into the transmission, if there's no shift boot to block it.

I don't remember on the T-98 but most T-18's actually have a vent in the shifter top similar to what is on the axles. Once can be easily added also. Some do vent through the shifter stick and associated hardware.

The vent is just left of the reverse sensor I added to the T-98. You may need to rotate your monitor :)

The transfer case vent is in this picture behind the levers...

So, its november 1st, and 70 in wisconsin. i slapped some rtv fluid on my diff surface after i cleaned all the metal parts and oil/water mix out of the diff and slapped the cover back on. im off for some 2WD adventures!

    My questions are:
    1. do i need a gasket for the diff cover if im using rtv gasket maker?

    2. When i go to order my spider gears, are they all the same? just order a set for a D27?

Jeep and Scout pinion and side gears with 10 spline axles are the same. Cannot answer for Volvo or other oddballs.

And trying to find the shift boot for the T-98 is impossible. It has a longer throw than the T-90 and the boot rips. I am trying to find a big rig type bellows replacement for the one I have now. When I do, I will let everyone know what I found.

I am running a bellows style boot on my T-18 in my 3B from a Volvo 240. The opening is a little wider than the shifter, but it is really soft rubber; a hose clamp or even a zip tie would probably be enough to seal it. The base of the boot is square, so you might prefer to build your floor around it. Just an option.
