Went on a 10 hour journey to retrieve this jeep and I couldn't be happier with it so far.

The frame and tub have matching serial numbers GPW 60603 and DOD 9-1-42. The engine is probably from a truck, water pump boss has SN T115989. Has a GPW head and thermostat housing. Has 12v conversion and came with a set of civilian wheels. Gas tank is in good shape with little rust inside. It's missing some things but I plan to add them back at some point.

I spent the day cleaning out the Jeep and removing some of the bubba. The T84 got stuck in second/neutral yesterday so I took the time and cleaned up the shifter housing, shifter, and shifter spring. I tried oven cleaner as another member claimed it worked well for them and it was very effective at removing all the grease/oil.
The D18 is missing the parking brake assembly.

For the most part the floor is solid and there is some rust under the gas tank and on the passenger side. The rear of the tub needs some attention.

Wow, that's probably the cheapest GPW I've heard of in that shape. Great find. Now get busy and restore it and include lots of pictures please.

A grand-mother in the Jeep family. Be a good doctor, long life to her.

Removed some junk. The toolboxes need a bit of work but they are solid otherwise.
Killed the old angle grinder. 20+ years of hard service and it caught fire,,, briefly.
Hardest part has yet to come. Removing the diamond plate from the front and rear.

Are you going to return the body to original? If so, I trust you know that there was no cut out or tail gate on a GPW or MB for that matter.

The rear was not a separate part but rather part of the body so not a script part. The only place that I know of that the body had a script stamping was on the floor just rear of the transmission/transfer case area.

the early gpw and Willys tubs were script until later 42 before acm came about with composite bodies in 43. They had a raised portion on the bottom left of the tub and it said Ford or Willys depending if it were a GPW or MB. Picture for reference.

Interesting. I didn't realize the name was embossed into the body sheet metal. How do you plan to duplicate the stamping. Is there a source?

As I recall reading, the story goes that the early ones were letter stamped until the govt felt it was advertising and made them remove it.
