I have a Buick 4.1 (252) engine without flywheel, bell housing or starter which I want to put into a CJ2A with T90. The problem is I am in South Africa where Buick parts are non-existing. I found a bell housing with T90 adapter, but now I need a flywheel and starter. Shipping to import a flywheel will probably kill me, but I can easily find a Chevy flywheel here. I have tried to fit a Chevy flywheel on it and all but one bolt fit.
    • Can I weld up the one hole and drill it in the correct position?
    • Do you think if I then only import a ring gear with the correct teeth count and make it fit to the Chevy flywheel it will work?
    • Which ring gear will I need?
    • Which starter will I need?
    • Will a Chevy starter work on the Buick engine?
I know there is a balancing issue with these engines, but I am very stupid with this. What is needed to balance a flywheel? Must they strip the engine to get the crank out to balance the flywheel?
I have a 4.1 flex plate. If I take the flex plate with the flywheel to an engineering shop will they be able to balance the flywheel?

    Thank you for your help!!

I think before going through all that I'd see about having a flywheel made. Probably cheaper in the long run. Use the 4.1 flex plate for balancing reference.
