I'm looking at a T18 with the 6.32 low. It has everything from the bellhousing to the Dana 20. It is from a 1974 J-20. Currently I have a 304 with a T-150 and Dana 20. What will I need to bolt this up? Is it a straignt bolt in? I assume I could unbolt my current trans from the bellhousing, remove the T150 bellhousing, trans and transfer and simply bolt up the whole unit from the J-20. THis seems to easy to work........

    Thanks.....

Can you post a pic? Is it the one on eBay for $600? I am putting in an FSJ T-18 right now, but it came from a later year. Mine came stock with a 5" adapter between the bell and the trans. If that is what you have, you will not be able to use it as-is because, although it will bolt to the motor, you'll practically be shifting from the back seat. In that case, you'd have to swap out for a kit from Novak. If it has the ~7" input shaft, then you're fine.

You'll need to change the mainshaft as the one from the J truck is waaaaay to long. Also the bearing retainer will have to be changed for the same reason. You'll need the bellhousing from a T150 or T176. PartsMike has everything you'd need for this swap.

IIRC the Jeep T-18 is different from the FOrd pattern (T-150 or T-176 bell) by one bolt hole, so you'll also have to drill the bellhousing. Also, some Jeep T-18s are not compatible with teh Ford input shaft, having different synchro thicknesses.

Use the search, Luke. This has been covered many, many, many times before.

Oh great timgr- I go forth and search............

By the way, which is eaiser and or cheaper, use a t-18 from a '73 Ford (F-250) or the t-18/dana 20 from the J-20. I can get either. I currently have a T-150.

The '73 Ford T-18. It will bolt right to your bellhousing with no mods. Will need to change the pilot bushing. Do the search on modifying the back of the case for the stock adapter. You will need both transmissions to do the conversion easily as you will need the adapter from the Jeep T-18 and output shaft also and put them in the Ford case. Nickmil
