Well, I've already found my way onto the board in the Jeepster VIN thread, but I thought I would formally introduce myself.

Names Enos, hailing from Nova Scotia, Canada. Not new to Jeeping (currently have a decently modified 94 XJ), but new to the Commando scene.

A fellow flagged me down in a parking lot in my hometown asking if I wanted some Cherokee parts as he was cleaning out a backyard junkyard. The XJ wasn't much use to me, but the Commando that he had just pulled out of the trees intrigued me. A week later, he drops by my house telling me if I don't take it, its off to the scrapyard. A half hour later, its sitting in my driveway.

1969 (?) Jeepster Commando, Dauntless V6 with HEI ignition (still turning free, hopefully running by Saturday), T86, D20 (with PTO - is that common?), D27 front, D44 rear. Body is in bad shape, frame is in worse. Thanks to Paul Hawkes (if it wasn't for him, it probably would have gone to scrap that day), I have the frame pieces I need to get started. It also had dual auxillary gas tanks, anyone know how common this is? - I've looked at a lot of pics and haven't seen any with the caps on the front fenders.

    A few pics here: http://24.89.246.97/jeepster_commando.htm

Welcome to another fellow Canadian :) . The PTO isn't real common but I've seen a few. Probably had a PTO winch on it at one time. Dual gas tanks are very uncommon. I've seen a few Commandos with them but can't recall seeing a Jeepster.
Looks like you have a project on your hands, nothing a complete body won't cure though. See it already has the HEI upgrade.

I was incorrect about the PTO, someone took a look at it and told me the knob between the seats was for a PTO, was crawling around underneath it tonight and found out it is the valve for switching between the three gas tanks.

The wiring is a complete hack job, looks like someone wired a bypass for the key switch and half the connectors are corroded off. I tried to get it to roll over jumping across the starter, could get the starter to spin but not engage (my hotwireing skills leave a lot to be desired). Got the horns to beep though, nice dual tone. ;-)

What browser are you using? My FTP server doesn't seem to like Firefox.

That would explain it. Didn't work for me either, using Firefox.

    I'll try something else.

That's funny R) . I was going to mention that, until I got looking at the hood of my 57 Dodge PU  .

    Gee, thanks!

I think the lichen might work as a rust inhibitor as the hood is about the only thing not full of holes. :)
